Carolina Panthers May Target New York Giants Safety Kenny Phillips in Free Agency

Health is a huge factor. If his previous injuries are resolved and he plans on starting every week, then it may be worth pursuing. I would think it would incentive laden and short on guaranteed money unless it was a 1 year deal like Gettlemen is fond of referring to as being desirable and mutual beneficial for a guy who needs to prove himself. There is no telling whether someone will ****** him up or if he will be out there looking for a team and he will be willing to deal. General opinion seems to be that it is starting to turn into a buyer's market.

How many games has he played in the last 2 years? I haven't paid much attention to the Giants but it seems like when he's brought up on here people bring up injuries. If a guy can't stay healthy it doesn't help just because we recognize his name. It can actually be worse because like in a Morgan/Otah situation you think you have the position addresses when you really don't.

17 more games than Beason

Alright so would you rather have him for 8 games or have a younger player and use the money somewhere else? Obviously anybody can get hurt I'm just asking your opinion. I don't know what Beason has to do with it, for the record they gotta get that contract off whether they cut him, trade him, or restructure him,

Kenny Phillips would be a really solid pick-up. He missed 9 games last season but he was a key part of the Giants Super Bowl run in 2011. Had like 80+ and 4 Ints. Relatively young as well and can play both FS and SS.

Once we make a few cuts then we can speculate who we may target...

I wouldn't get all worked up until then

But isn't getting worked up what the huddle is all about? What's next, civil conversations?

Until somethiing is done with Gross and Gamble, it is all speculation. Although a healthy Phillips would make our D much much better.

Why 8?

I'd rather finally have a decent S....which we haven't had in awhile. We need some stability in the secondary.

As far as Beason, I used him to show Phillips hasn't missed tons of time over the last two years.

You said he played like 17 more games than Beason the last 2 seasons so I was just guessing that meant he played 8 or 9 games last year. Like I said I recognize his name but I just didn't know if his injury was just last year or a chronic thing over a couple years. We've had good luck picking up FA safeties(Chris Harris,Marlon McCree) so if he's healthy I'm all for it.
