What could the NFL do with the off season?

40 posts in this topic

Since this is the first Sunday without any football, and with so much talk of an 18 game regular season... I was thinking about things the NFL could do in the off season.

Sundays are boring now... Sure there's basketball, golf and hockey now but its not the NFL.

Other than extending the season, which I personally think is a bad idea... what else could they do?

How about a minor league season in the spring. Each franchise could have a minor league team of talent that didn't make the NFL and play like an 8 game season with a short playoff.

I would watch that, would you?

I was just talking about this at work, I would love a minor league team made up of players not on the 53 roster most of the season. This would give lot's of players the opportunity to show off their skill and this will make the league millions...The down side to all of this is watering down the NFL product need to keep the fans excited for next season to begin.

The NFL leaves you wanting more, that is a good thing for their product. It beats burning people out on it.

Yeah, I've wanted a minor league for some time. A place to groom guys. Get them playing time. I'd definitely watch.

There's definitely a burn out factor, which is why the season should be short...

Also to keep talent for the NFL high, once a player has been on an NFL roster for say... More than 8 games or something, they can't play in the minor league.

Basically I just miss football... Give me more.

They use to have that NFL Europe league. Always liked watching Amsterdam. Walter Paytons son was awesome. Think he played for the titans later on and even scored a td.

a league of players that aren't good enough to play in the NFL?

it's called the CFL! not even a fair comparison, but it's a fix and a good enough reason to drink beer with 30 or 40 thousand of your friends!

The "new" USFL slated for next year is aiming to fill that minor league role. Unlike the failed UFL, it will play its games in the spring/summer.

I have my doubts it will even get off the ground, though.

    • WaPo isn't partners with the CIA. Amazon Web Services, which sells servers to thousands upon thousands of companies and websites, sold servers to the CIA. You can buy your own now right here. Does that make you partners with the WaPo? https://aws.amazon.com When Jimmy Dore says "600 million dollars is more than the Washington Post is even worth!" he's being a dumbass. The Washington Post didn't make the deal with the CIA so what they're worth is irrelevant. Amazon Web Services sold them servers, and they happen to have the same parent company as the Washington Post. The thing about Jimmy Dore is that he is absolutely utterly obsessed with Hillary Clinton. Like, utterly obsessed. Everything goes back to Hillary Clinton to him, and his obsession has morphed into skepticism of the Russian investigation, because he views it as an excuse for why Hillary lost. He can't accept the Russia stuff being true because if it's true then maybe Clinton didn't lose on merit. And so his skepticism of the Russia investigation has led him down the path of 'well the Deep State is conspiring against Trump' and 'the Deep State is the real true evil.' He fact-checks nothing. It's Alex Jones level poo.
    • Anyone who can equate any modern presidency at any moment in time with the embarrassment we see right now is off their gd rocker. What is really telling is that we now see that Trump can't just be casual.  He can't just talk it up with other peers.  He can't just chill the f*ck out. Seriously....people like this are weird as hell.   It's been obvious he's the head of a business but not a business savvy guy since the Apprentice.  I don't understand why we want the Sharknado meets 80s bad guy of Presidents.
    • They said they're working on four spin off shows.. HBO really milking westeros for all it's worth. Although, I wouldn't mind seeing what happened with valyria or the fall of the mad king
