Knopfler, Clapton and Buckingham. Anything that sounds clean.

I'll name a bunch that you've probably never heard of to start off with...

Paul Waggoner

Trey Azagthoth

Chuck Schuldiner

Francesco Artusato

Jeff Loomis

Here's one that not many know of, unfortunately...

Alan Holdsworth

...and of course you have the classics

Hendrix

Vaughan

Clapton

Santana

not a ton of name recognition and arguably not on any "best of all time" short lists but this guy has one of the most odd and unique styles i've ever heard:

he's best known for having played on megadeth's "peace sells...but who's buying?" album. smooth vibrato and extremely fluid legato technique.

I'm as big of a jimi fan as you'll ever find and I think that Stevie ray Vaughn is better. So yeah it is close.

And it's Joe Satriani.

oh yeah joe satriani...he does nice riffs.

umm stevie is nice but he admits that he is not better than jimi lol jimi was his idol so of course he would never anything bad about him...

i feel like stevie copied jimi style.....i know he is great but its just feel like he is someone covering another guys style when i listen to him. almost like a good karaoke singer

some say jimi and stevie got their style from albert king. so its just all an opinion man.

The point was that the term "not even close" is being used wrong.
