The interviews and medical is the biggest part. The rest are for show.

I think the NFL could do without the combine


The combine is very useful in at least one aspect: It allows teams to interview top guys at one location as opposed to teams having to fly people around all over the place, wasting time and money.

As for the rest, it is a bit contrived, but it does help to winnow out the wheat from the chaff in regards to each team's needs.

Most evaluators will say that a player can only move up or down between a half to a full round based on their combine. One player who may have moved up to the middle of round one is Tyvon Austin. I'd definitely put him in our mix as an impact playmaker in the mold of DeSean Jackson.
