Um Brandon LaFell is one of the better two's in the league. Everyone compares our wide receiver situation to Atlanta because they are in our division when I would take our wide receiving corp over about 15 other teams. It would obviously be ideal to find Smitty's replacement ASAP but if it doesn't happen this year, then it will definitely happen next year.

Sorry, I never thought of LaFell as being one of the better WR2s in the league, and I can name many teams, outside of the the Falcons who have better twos. Just think of perennial powers.

It's easy for some to assume we may poach from the Giants because we have Gettleman now, just a simpletons way of thinking. Both Bennett and Barden would be worth a look though for depth.

It could be by being bad or just ordinary, or it could be because you have been buried on the bench by some pretty good WRs.

By being a bad Wide Receiver.

And as someone already mentioned, 9 of those 24 came against us last season.

To me it's a little bit presumptuous to come to this conclusion considering the talent that has been in NYC at the 1, 2 and 3 spots. When Barden got his chance on the big stage (which happened to be against us), he killed it.

i really think bardens low stats has alot to do with him not getting playing time behind a stacked wr corps. if a none 1, 2, 3 reciever got 9 catches against us our secondary has problems

Barden has done nothing to prove he can be a number four, let alone a number three except burn our lackluster secondary in week three. Those that want Barden spend a little to much time playing madden. The Panthers need someone to push LaFell to the next level or a guy that can come in and be our future number one... Barden is neither so to go out and throw money at him is pointless and I'd very surprised if it happened.

Bennett on the other hand would be a grade addition.

I'm not aware if Hartsock is a free agent or not, but the addition of Bennett would make him expendable while also letting us keep Barney as the third tight end (Olsen, Bennett, Barney).

I'd rather take a shot on that Lamont Jordan cat we got on the practice squad. He's 6'6" and supposedly a great athlete with good hands.

Well, it's not like the two (or three) are mutually exclusive. I mean Murphy and Armanti are expandable, as well as Brockel and/or Barney. I could obviously throw in questions regarding Pilares, Adams and Gettis.

Just imagine trees like Bryant, Barden and Bennett actually being consistently productive in the offense. Forget Megatron (being facetious) we'd have our own set of Transformers. Put them in with Smitty and Olsen, and Cam could spread the ball around like Optimus Prime.

Martellus Bennett is legit but we don't need a #1 TE, we need a complementary low salary TE. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bennett ends up in Tampa with his brother Michael.

What I am saying is that if Gettleman---who presumably knows the real deal about Barden---signs him, that would be a reason for some optimism.

Some people are not convinced that he is a true TE1. Perhaps he could demand a higher salary, but I kinda doubt it. Perhaps he'd relish the thought of playing with Cam and the Panthers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, just going out on a limb here, but it seems like you're assuming that they go the free agency route to find a wide receiver.

I see a few guys that can be a great number three or even a very good number two in the NFL Draft that can be taken in the second or fourth round. I also see a handful of wide receiver that the Panthers could take in the first to be Smith's successor.

If the Panthers truly believe they are on the verge of the playoffs, a championship, or whatever; then look for proven veterans to come in at the vet minimum (i.e. Canty) instead of young and unproven players (i.e. Barden).

WR2? You are talking about Martellus Bennett right? Believe me, I'm a huge fan of Bennett and would love it if we got him for a reasonable salary.
