I feel great about this year.

1. Cam entering 3rd year
2. No expectations - always when we have success
3. We have been a play away from under Rivera from being 10 win teams...Cam gets us over now (especially since he has been forgotten)

I'm in the same boat as you. Rivera made a group with some serious holes into a top 10 unit on the defensive side. He's built great defenses in the past, and he obviously knows what he's doing in that regard.

I'm a little concerned about Shula, but I have enough faith in Cam's athletic ability to mask those concerns, at least in the short-term.

I really think that we are justified in being optimistic heading into this season, but time will tell. I've felt that way before, only to be doused with some icy-cold water in the end.

I think we will make the playoffs, but just barely. Everyone will take this as a sign that we have "arrived" and Rivera will get a fat new contract. Then once expectations are high and everyone spends the off season talking about super bowls we spend years being mediocre as hell. This just seems like the appropriate outcome.

No one needs to worry about Shula.

Chud and Scott Shanahan are both average.....they get Cam and RGIII and suddenly people think they are mad scientist. Shula has Cam....suddenly Shula will look like a changed man. Players make coaches....and break them overall.

I agree that it's not an issue in the short-term, but I really think I'd be more comfortable with numerous other offensive coordinators. Great players can most certainly make coaches look better, but it works the other way too- great coaching can make players look better than they otherwise would.

Looking like 2010 all over again. The exception being Cam Newton of course, he will win us between 5 to 7 games again next season but wont be able to do much more due to the lack of talent around him, god forbid Cam gets hurt we wouldn't be able to win a single game without him. Here's to another 7-9 at best season.

i know it's difficult, but being a panther fan has humbled me. So I will take gettlemen at his word when he says he needs football players and not superstar name recognition. he's got a pretty good record with this approach in nyc. hopefully he manages this off-season with a winning determination. We'll see in september.

Don't worry, OP, more bad threads will come soon to match this one. The ones where people predict we'll go 11-5, 12-4, etc. That crap is just as annoying.

It should be worth noting that every year there is some poor noob Huddler that makes a thread like this early calling the team out for not patching the horrible bleeding we have at so many positions, and every year the huddle skewers him and says "it's only the first day!!!"

Followed by

"it's only been a week!! Relax!!

Preceding

"it's barely been a month!!"

And the last bastions

"we'll probably sigh all out big free agents just before the season starts!!"

concluded by the final delusional dweebs

"dis ain't madden brah! Good teams don't sign good players! They probably get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs!!"

And every year the Panthers stick to "the plan" and continue to wallow in their shame and ineptitude and don't go spending no dollars no confoundit free agents when we got some good ole decent folk on our own the ole fashioned way at the RB position

And then the panthers miss the playoffs and fans act mad and then Richardson promises real change and sends your PSLs in the mail and then doesn't actually do anything else and the cycle begins anew

Just worth remembering

we have no money breh.

Maybe, but look, I'm pretty confident that FO is capable enough to rate Shula. If they have confidence, then why don't we just get behind him, and hope for the best?
I'd rather have a guy like Shula, who will be eager to show his knowledge and capability, than a 'miracle' guy like Chud that screwed our season by thinking he invented hot water.
