Players have only a few years to make enough money to last them forever. Why are they considered assholes for trying to get that money when you see teams jettisoning veteran contracts like its nothing? If you command the money, you go get it player.

he can get it elsewhere. Seriously, I know these guys have to get paid, but with his timing, and our given situation it simply seems like a diva move to me.

Just so everyone knows the new TV deals kick in next year. The cap number will jump. How much is a question no one really knows but the cap wont go up 2 or 3 million. Probally more like 10 at least. http://profootballta...growth-in-2014/

They've done used that money for 2014, it's why the cap wasn't 113 the first year of the new CBA.

This season, it's expected to be roughly $123 million, which is where it was back in 2009 in the final capped year of the previous CBA. The cap won't spike in coming years despite the expected influx of big dollars from TV contracts in 2015.

Despite the carryover luxury, teams can't go crazy spending. The NFL management council is projecting that the cap may go up only $300,000 to $500,000 a year for the next two or three years, a number that is contested by the NFL Players Association. All salary cap numbers are subject to an audit and possible negotiation after each season, but let's assume that projection is accurate. Teams have about $279 million of cap room currently available with all but about 60 draft choices signed, but less than $278 million of room is available in 2013. That doesn't take into account slight increases in base salaries that occur each season, or any cap carryover from 2012.

IN SBJ, NFL tells teams to project flat salary caps thru 2015: 2013 ($121 mln); 2014 (122 mln) 2015 (125 mln), and then in 2016 $130 mln.

Of course that's gone up a bit to 123 this season, but the point remains that the NFL has spent it's new TV contract money for the foreseeable future.

Think they would trade or cut CJ to retain Hardy?

I doubt it, especially this season. I guess they could ask CJ to restructure or take a pay cut, but I doubt he would do that. Also CJ is definitely worth the money he's getting paid, he's one of the best all round DE's in the NFL.

If they did cut him as a June 1st cut, it would save the team 7 million this season and 3 million next season. If they cut him next off season as a June 1st it would save the team 9 million in 2014 and 10 million in 2015.

i wasn't suggesting this season.

For example, if hardy goes out and dominates again thus.coming season, and you can only.keep one...wgich would you keep?

I'd keep the younger one, if it was my choice.

All I gotta say is Hardy has got to be BIG TIME trade bait. Gettleman shouldn't let him walk without anything in return.

Not speaking like he shouldn't be a part of the core of this team for the next decade, but realistically speaking, we could get something for him.

Johnson is probably not much older than Hardy, he was like 20 or 21 as a rookie. More importantly, Johnson's guaranteed money($30 mil) is so much that he is Panther for at least 3 more seaons.

Trade, franchise (if he has 10+ sacks), or let him walk.

Can't afford two 10+ million dollar DEs.

You have to have many guys playing on rookie deals.

I know we love our own, but we cannot keep shelling out big money. Specially with the Cam deal looming.

Only positions deserving of 10+ million for elite play.... QB, LT, or DE. And we already have one DE.

For one I think half the people on here are over reacting right now. Dave Genttlemen came from a Giants org. that know how deal with big time players and contracts. Giants mange to keep guys little Canty,JJP, and Strahan for years on the defense and other top guys as well. Gettlemen knows how to deal with contracts and he will figure this out. Cam will not be going no where unless he screws up in the next 2 years and Gettlemen will work things out to keep Hardy around. Hurney ain't around anymore you know. Gettlemen ain't going to over pay Hardy like Hurney did with CJ and Dwill. I wish people would stop over reacting and wait to see what happens down the road. Gettlemen has this in hands. I'm not worried one bit.

Trade Charles Johnson to Detroit who lost both DE's. Pick up third rd pick

Then sign Kraken to "proper" deal

Dude what are you smoking? CJ is worth at least a 2nd round pick right now. 3rd pick is to low. Your smoking something hard right now ain't you. LOL

CJ is not a great value at this point with the money he is getting. If he was making 2 million a year, then yeah, I could see a higher draft pick. We would be unloading a huge debt. Would be happy with a third.

you don't have to use internet, penis measuring speech by the way. just talk football. "LOL"

CJ is worth more than a first to the Panthers, maybe not to many other teams but to the Panthers, right now he is worth a lot. Mentioning him in a trade or cut in the next two seasons is really absurd, especially in consideration for Hardy who has had only one good season and of course for the penalty we would be hit with.

Johnson is only 2 yrs older than hardy despite being in the lg for 3 extra years
