New Helmet Rule

66 posts in this topic

Not surprised it passed, they wanted to bring back the shoulder. The proper way to lay the boom as a rb, lower the shoulder and lead with it and not the helmet. incidental contact isn't supposed to be called and it's got to be outside the box or further then 3 yards down the field.

Also of course Jim Brown would be for it, the man always lead with the shoulder, kept his head up when he ran.

AP needs to get on the phone with Mr. Brown and learn a thing or two about running with power with out lowering the helmet down and losing field vision.

This is the most asinine rule change in the history of the league. Its mind blowing, the lengths they(Goodell) will go to pervert the game that is paying him millions to rule over with an iron dildo. This is one of those moments where Goodell will just ram it home with out even the complementary spit on the tip first. Grab your ankles now football fans, things are gonna get uncomfortable.

He's killing the league faster then David Stern is killing the NBA.

I understand it's natural to go against change but I do not see this affecting the game as much as it may seem.

I get that backs should lower their shoulders but how do you do that without lowering the helmet? Especially on a goal line play?

What about a tight end in the open field? WR?

This doesn't effect goal line plays. Read the rules, this doesn't effect plays inside the tackle box or less then 3 yards passed the line of scrimmage. So in other words, doesn't effect goal line plays, 3 and 1 or any of our running backs, ZING.

Difference is that when you lower your shoulder, you can't lead with your helmet. It's leading with the helmet that will be penalized, not lowering it.

I hope they have a lllloooonnnnggggg summer school for the officiating crews. No replay on this penalty is gonna' suck.

The more things change, the more I move closer and closer to being a full-on hockey fan instead of football fan. Really sucks.

Yeah i just went back and saw that it was approved for not leading with the crown outside of the tackle box. That makes sense. If you are leading with the crown outside of the box you cant see where the hell you are going anyway. Wont change much IMO.

Watch Jim Brown run. A lot of the great power backs for the most part kept the head up and led with their shoulder.
