Dying Veterans last letter to Bush and Cheney

22 posts in this topic

Maybe you should take the time to read the damn thing, since he didn't say that.

I write this letter on the 10th anniversary of the Iraq War on behalf of my fellow Iraq War veterans. I write this letter on behalf of the 4,488 soldiers and Marines who died in Iraq. I write this letter on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of veterans who have been wounded and on behalf of those whose wounds, physical and psychological, have destroyed their lives. I am one of those gravely wounded

Look up the word "behalf".

What do you know of the sacrifices this soldier has endured. People join the military with such a strong belief in this nation that though our lives may be lost, they will not be thrown away. We put faith in our leaders, leaders elected by the people. Because of this the people have a huge responsibility to properly vet the people who make those decisions. How would your life be if every troop believed that the American public cares so little for his life that it would throw it away for nothing as you claim he should believe. How strong would this nation be if noone joined the military.

^This. This is why he is so pissed; and why so many other vets are pissed while others are just thankful and grateful that we were spared. Of course you know what you sign up for. But nobody wants their sacrifice to be for nothing. Saying something stupid like, "he should have known" or "he should have been prepared for this" is absurd. I enlisted in the USMC at 19 (two years after 9-11); nobody at 19 is seriously thinking "man....I might get fuged up or die". Most people that joined up around that time did so because they felt a call of duty born from the fact that they felt their nation deserved to be protected and that they were doing the right thing for the right reasons. It sucks when you have to face the fact that in the end the people at the top used you and used your sense of duty to do shady poo.

Look up the word "behalf".

He clearly meant it wrote it on behalf of the dead and wounded.

I am sure that many don't agree with his assessment.

Behalf: G5's parents last desperate plea to make their son worth something, in a sentence:

G5! If you can't be a real man, at least try to behalf a man!

No one VOLUNTEERS with the anticipation they're going to die or be wounded ONLY for just causes.

Do you think those snipers in Mogadishu asked to support their downed chopper pilot with the thought what they were doing was making a better Mogadishu? Hell freaking no. They did it because they chose to answer the call of whatever their country asked them to do and in situations like that...act like brothers in arms....true Band of Brothers. In fact...in the end of the Black Hawk Down movie...you get that spiel. It's not about the cause. It's about being there for your fellow soldier and do your job. That's it.

Want to bitch? Get out and do all the bitching you want. I get that. He has every right to bitch and complain, but to assume he speaks on behalf of ALL Iraqi veterans. The sentence that CWG has a complete blindfold when reading...is a reach.

You are right soldiers do fight for the soldier to their left or right, but we volunteer for the belief in our country. But the idealism that creates the deep cultural drive that leads young men and women to give their lives must be protected. This means that those that abuse the trust that soldiers have in their leaders ability to use them justly must be punished. It is necessary for the survival of this nation. If that trust is lost what would become of the military? If the common citizen appreciates the quality of life they enjoy as Americans they would do well to put serious effort into picking worthy leaders and not base their decisions on media/pundit/extremists views.

When the fug did you serve? How the fug would you know why people would volunteer to serve? Your example is beyond stupid. Of course those guys would lay it on the line for their brothers in arms, who wouldn't? If America ever engaged in a blatantly unjust war not obfuscated by an appropriate cloak of lies you don't think there would be an immediate and extreme backlash from a significant portion of the guys who would be expected to fight? There would be.

You're doing the same thing you are accusing the author of the letter of doing. You are trying to speak for an untold number of fighting men. You're getting pretty twisted up about just one sentence....

we really need to change the name of the department of defense to the department of war so people don't get confused and enlist due to some silly notion that america fights defensive wars

I didn't, and I wish I had. Just didn't work out. College...dating wife...get job...settle down. I'm not getting worked up about his one sentence. I get worked up when people attack me. Having to explain my reasoning for what I said when the man's own words has him speaking on behalf of all...that shouldn't be too hard to understand. I, in no way, speak for anyone but it doesn't take a mathematician or statistician to understand that he might just be a minority of those who served. Heck...even if he is a majority it's ridiculous some of the things he brought up. No one is going to the Hague. Trials for Bush/Cheney are NOT going to happen. People are going to have to move on from this.

Stop speaking for those of us who served. You don't know why we did what we did

You're an idiot with reading comprehension issues.
