still funny that people think he should quit running and be just a pocket passer....

Do people actually think that?

Part of this is also a function of the offensive philosophy. So long as RR is here, we're running an Air Coryell system, which is fine by me because it matches Newton's natural strengths.

some here think he should only run if forced to and referenced how Eli Manning plays the game. That he should play like Eli. They pretty much of implied that since Gettlemen is a dinosaur used to traditional play (his preference) that Gettlemen will be our HC and OC this year and have Cam follow Eli Manning's style.

I say Cam will keep on being Cam. They think a comment by old man Gettlemen suddenly means everything we know about Cam and his history of success if irrelevent when discussing his play going forward.

I'm completely speculating, but it could be because of just how big and strong he is.

Sort of like Shaq shooting a free throw, but not nearly as terrible. Cam has gigantic hands and a rocket arm, so when he needs to just loft a pass or put a little bit of touch on a throw he ends up throwing a laser dart that our RB or WR is unable to handle. That or it sails 10 feet over his head.

Actually, it has more to do with the fact that he typically is late getting to his checkdowns because he likes to look downfield as long as possible. When you're late on the underneath throws you have a hard time completing them. This will improve with experience.

Good point. I definitely agree this is something he will improve on his way to becoming an elite passer.

Cam's passes don't get tipped that often, but in regards to his short - medium - deep accuracy I think it's partially his tendency to overthrow (easier for WRs to adjust on deep passes) and partially who we have running those routes. Smitty is his primary deep target, so those passes are going to get caught more often. Lafell and Olsen would be his primary medium targets and RBs and scrubs would be his short targets. I think the quality of the WRs running the routes affects the accuracy (as well as on the short throws to Smitty, since he overthrows sometimes Smitty being a shorter WR would have trouble reacting in time to the high passes).

Never understood why Newton has such a hard time with short passes and why his passes always get tip. I mean he is is 6'6.....weird.

Because Cam throws every ball has hard as he can.

Eh, Cam was worse at short throws his rookie season......I thought he got better this year, especially throwing screens.

a huge-ass underneath guy at WR would help immensely on these stats IMO
