It's a smart move by Gettleman because it might allow the Panthers to compete for the playoffs this year and in turn save Rivera's job being that they could technically afford a semi big name free agent, it would just have to be on a one year contract.

I wouldn't even consider that "re-structure". He just took a massive pay cut. This is great. WE HAVE CAP ROOM!!!

he didn't take a pay cut, it's probably an combination extension/more signing bonus which means he gets paid more now but the team can spread the cap hit over more years thus lowering his number.

It's basically a win win

looks like we're saving close to 3 mil, on the flip side his deal is voidable next year. OL here we come!

Gettleman has done more positive cap management in this single offseason than Hurney did the past 4 seasons.

I know there is no such thing as under the table, I was just being sarcastic. if it translate to cap space now and less of a bad impact in the future I'm all for it... the goal is to be competitive and be able to have a quality product on the field.
