Keenan Allen's 40 time; 4.71, Luke Kuechly's 40 time; 4.5. Anyone concerned by Allen's speed? (Or lack thereof)

In a different era of the NFL. I bet Dick Butkus would've done well to break 5 flat. Does that mean a a LB in today's NFL could get away with it?

Butkus isn't in the same era as Rice, lol what?

You do realize Deion Sanders had NEVER shutdown Jerry Rice even though he was much faster than him, right? In fact, he caught six passes for over hundred yards against him in one game, Sanders lowest yardage he allowed vs Rice was three passes for thirty-five yards.

Luke ran a faster 40 than cam. So what? That .20 seconds isn't legit speed. That's your start and form when running. A sub 4.40 guy can run a 4.70 with a bad start. It doesn't mean poo once you have the pads on

Coming from a guy who thinks Wilson is a better qb than can your talent evaluation is seriously suspect

Damn...with the way some of you are obsessed with speed, I would swear that you are the reincarnation of Al Davis.

I am not saying that I want him at #14......I don't....but I don't want any WR in the first. Each has too many holes/questions about their game.

Patterson....too damn raw and terrible route runner.

Allen....speed is a ?, but I am more hesitant on the injury.

Austin....fast and electric. But, I don't like slot WR's that high. He is short and very light. Don't give me the SS and Harvin comments because both of those guys are built like tanks compared to Austin. Not to mention SS has a vertical leap that compensates for his lack of height. Something that Austin does not have.

I like some of the guys that are likely to be there at #44 (better value).

I am not concerned enough to say no to drafting him.

If you guys want college production then Steadmam Bailey is your guy.

If you want straight line speed then it's Austin.

If you want the most complete football player then it's Allen IMO.

Perspective is everything, watching his games tells you his college o-line and QB were the worst of any top 10 WR prospect by a mile considering their competition was in the PAC-10 not division 2 opponents.

I don't mind people who have their personal taste and dislike him but some of you have compared him to Dwayne Jarrett and acted as if he should go undrafted and that discredits anything you say about him IMO.

Bottom line, I still like him better than any other WR our there personally and have objectively watched every snap of his available online. I am not going to make any wild guarantees about him or any other prospect and ignore you guys who do.

Does anyone learn from the past? Same arguments for Dewayne Jarrett who slipped bc of his 40 and was more productive on the field.

Plenty of HE PLAYS LIKE he runs 4.4 on the field.

Comparing Allen to Jarrett is completely shortsighted at best....

It's ignorant and lazy.

The more concerning thing is that he only had 1...thats right...1 100 yard receiving game this year. Actually he only has 1 100 yard receiving game since 10/13/2011. So that is 15 out of his last 16 games he was held under 100 yards...and runs a 4.7...it is all pretty damn concerning.

I can understand the concern, but the guy had someone on The Golden Calf of Bristol's status or worse throwing to him. That QB he had was absolutely terrible.

We need a wide receiver that can take the top off the defense. We already have a possession receiver in LaFell. I am with those that say that Allen isn't really much of an upgrade over what we already have. Why did we pick up Ginn for example?? Because he has straight line speed. Why did we hold onto Gettis?? You can't coach speed. Either you have it or you don't. Of course speed isn't everything but you need a receiver who can complement what you already have not duplicate it.

In a vertical offense you have to get down field in a hurry to avoid putting your quarterback in a vulnerable spot. We already have possession guys we need speed guys given that Hixon and Gettis are both coming off ACL injuries and LaFell is a possession guy. Allen doesn't bring that much to the table we don't already have.

So with that said, they will pick him for sure.
