Passed away at age 82.

Arguably the best play by play guy ever.

He and John Madden were kings of the broadcast booth.

RIP Pat - he seemed to look of really poor health the last time I saw him on TV.

His last years doing games were not good.

But other than that, his ENTIRE broadcasting career was *stellar*. RIP.

Damn that sucks. Have fond memories from my childhood watching football with my dad with him and Madden broadcasting.

I always used to say it didn't feel like football season until I heard the voices of Pat Summerall and John Madden.

I suppose in a way, it'll never feel quite like football season again :(

i honestly thought he was already dead.

it's a shame that none of your younger people will know much about him. there's just not the voices that there used to be. it's pretty much the norm for me to have football on mute anymore.

Al Michaels is at least a decent successor to Summerall, though I'd still put Summerall in a class by himself.

Cris Collinsworth is definitely no Madden.

Having to reel in and ride herd on John Madden for 20+ years probably aged him 10 years. Definitely going to miss the voice.

RIP indeed. He was just wonderful. The Vin Scully (for me) of the NFL.
