The suddenly strong front seven, instantly upgrades the entire secondary.

Quick CB's will have opportunities now.

Exactly. a strong Dline will always make your secondary look better than it is. With the potential for an even strong pass rush now. Those young CB's have time to get better.

Can someone explain this logic to me? Sure, he will help free up our linebackers. But he clearly is not a pass-rushing DT like Dwan. Not seeing how he drastically improves our pass d.

cant agree less, you play to win the game. A winning culture in the locker room is better than a first overall pick, not named CAM

He improves our pass defense due to the fact that he can stop the run. Instead of teams needing four or five yards to convert on 2nd and 3rd downs; the addition of Star (and his run stuffing ability), turns those four or five yards into eight or nine yards. That in turn gives guys like Dwan, Hardy, Johnson and Alexander additional time to get to the QB.

In theory, on 3rd down Star may be off the field, but still may have dramatically improved our pass defense.

he was double-teamed in college so he had no opportunity to pass rush. but with Dwan, Hardy and Charles he will face 1-1 match-up. with H&C shrinking the pocket the QB will step into the Star inside rush..... example Dwan was not a pass rusher in buffalo until he meet H&D and posted career sack high and now he is a pass-rushing DT

The thing I like about him, when watching his highlight film, he does what he needs to do, and then gets off the field. There is no celebration, there is just the next play. That to me is bad ass.

Yea, in college when Star was bullrushing vs 1 OL (rather than just holding the point of attack to read and react) he straight up dominated his opponents. He'll still see 2 blockers often, and that will free up Dwan, Greg and CJ. A dominant DT like Star looks to be impacts every phase of the defense.

people keep saying he was double and even triple teamed in college so he was limited as a pass rusher...that doesn't appear accurate. He appears to just be a work in progress as a pass rusher, sounds like a coaching not a talent issue. If he was occupying double teams on 3rd down Utah wouldn't of pulled him on 3rd down

From what I've heard, they didn't. More than one commentary on the pick I've heard has been something to the effect of "he played a very high number of snaps (indicating Utah didn't pull him out often) which led to fatigue which would explain why some perceive a possible motor issue."

The few games I watched on youtube (all snaps footage of defense, not highlights), he was usually in on 3rd down. Even 3rd and long.

They were talking about picks this morning on Mike and Mike and when they came to Star, the only thing they really said was that it was a good pick, even though they thought Floyd would have been the better pick for a 4-3 defense like ours.
