Star: A+
Short: B+

Short was a really good pick and value at #44 but I won't give it an A just because of other needs on the team.

A- only minus because we still have needs we could have filled with the Short pick. That said, he was good value and is a hell of a player so I won't hate on the pick at all.

It's an A as far as value (talent relative to draft position). Now within the context of our needs and who we passed up on (Swearinger or Allen), I'm dropping it down to a B.

A for me, good value in both picks. Could we have gotten another player in 2? Sure but the value might not have been there for Gettleman. It doesn't hurt the grade when you think about the absolute dearth of DT talent we've had since..oh 2004. You can't pick everyone so you try to make the best impact.

B

I liked both of the picks but I could only give it a B because we didn't have a 3rd round selection. If we did, it probably would have been an A.

A for Star pick
C for Short pick

I like Short as a player, but it came off as a luxury pick to me. We really needed to be looking at some protection for Cam or another weapon for him. People will say, well this pick is a good pick because it solidifies our line and is Dwan's replacement. Well, when are we going to get Smiths replacement? He's clearly lost a step, and God forbid he gets seriously injured or gets one of those nagging(quad, hamstring, ankle) injuries. If that happens, our WR squad goes from average to trash, and you folks who already like to blame Cam for alot of woes, will be out in full force blaming him.

WalterFootball - Day2 Winners

Posted Image Carolina Panthers: Kawann Short, DT, Purdue Posted Image
The Panthers landed a great value with Short falling to their second-rond pick. They had to upgrade the interior of their defensive line. First-rounder Star Lotulelei and Short will dramatically improve Carolina's interior defense. Short was the most consistent interior pass rusher in college football the past few seasons.

Short, Lotulelei, Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy give the Panthers a very talented and young defensive line. The Panthers didn't have a third-round pick, but new general manager Dave Gettleman is off to a fantastic start with his two picks.
