Ventured Over to Some Other Football/Fan Forums

31 posts in this topic

Went over to some other websites where football is discussed by fans of all different NFL teams. There were numerous threads about grading your divisional opponents drafts and your personal favorite and least favorite drafts.

Numerous times, others were saying how Star and Short do not compliment one another's play and therefore they weren't a fan of our draft. Individually, they liked the picks...but not the two together. Can anyone explain why someone might think this?

Star is your prototypical run stuffer that can take on multiple blockers and hold the point of attack. He needs to improve on his pass rushing ability but has a good bull rush and can make plays downfield. Kawann has an array of pass rushing moves and is solid in run support. Am I the only one that thinks they compliment one another perfectly? Both possess very quick first-steps and both are prototypical size for their respective positions. Short is better at rushing the passer and Star is a natural run stuffer that can move a whole pocket or free other defenders.

So, why would someone be apt to say they do not compliment one another? Personally, I think these two side by side will be very good for a very long time. When Star and Short improve on their weaknesses...this could very well be one of the best DT cores in the league.

Yeah could grow into a very very good DT combo. I feel they work perfectly together. Still man, STILL this front 7 hasnt sunk in.

Getting the opinion of the typical fan about football is like getting the opinion of the typical med student about neurosurgery. They might have an idea of what the subject is about but you don't want them operating on anyone.

These guys probably have less actual football knowledge than the average huddler.

Which boards are these? If they are any other NFC south team you can go ahead and negate those opinions.

Lack of general knowledge of the game of football. Short can possibly become the best run stopping 3 tech in the land and Star is a beast over the ball. Star is a natural run stopper, Short a natural pass rusher, both possess the tools to get better. Think about how some pundits and fans wouldve went with Floyd over Star despite us needing a run stopper. We honestly got the best run stopping DT in the draft and the best pass rushing DT in the draft

Do you have a name for the forums? I'd like to read some of it.

football's future or something like that. NFC South fans just don't want to admit that if Carolina can stuff the run and get after the passer they will be in trouble. If we can apply constant pressure with the front four it will not bode well for anyone if our three backers run free.

Lol . What are they smoking?

Star and Short compliments each other like Peanut Butter and Jelly. A true run stuffing NT in Star with a penetrating force in Short.

I think that Star will become a better interior rusher in the NFL. He now has guys who can take double team off him every now and then compare to being at Utah. His talents and strength is so scary that if he's giving one on one look, I just can't believe why he can't get into the back field. I believe that the reason for him being considered not a good interior rusher is bc he was the only true star on a Utah Dline, and that forced him being doubled every play. I really think that Star can get you 3-5 sacks each year.

And Short is a better run stuffer than most people give credit to. He's a better penetrator but as I keep watching, the man is no slouch stuffing the run. I really believe that Short and Star can get better at both phase of their games.

We got two very good Top20 talents with both of them. Carolina will put the league on notice soon!

What about a 5 front look: CJ, Dwan, Short, Hardy, Alexander?

    • And to think this guy made it through 7 rounds and not one team wanted him.  Thank God Gettleman was on his "A" game and signed him here. Amazing how talent can bypass so many scouts, coaches and GMs. If they did a redraft.   What round would he go to?  Round 1?  He's a solid of a Guard as any in this league.
    • you do realize that $1M pledge he made was after he had received a ton of backlash and outcry from the media for sitting during the national anthem? He did hold his promise and has made some other donations as well, but before he decided to sit at football games, he didn't do jack poo for oppressed communities and the homeless, or any other charities for that matter. He was just a narcissist prima dona who so happened to play for one of the most talented teams in the NFL headed by one of the greatest coaches in the NFL. Him prospering early on in his career made him a cocky SOB who dressed like a thug during press conferences and treated the media like dog poo.  Yes people change, but he changed for the wrong reasons. His career was in turmoil, he was a declining NFL QB trying to stay relevant, so he thought up a rouge to get back in the spotlight by sitting. After he received backlash, he thought to himself "oh crap, I need to back up my words with some action. let me make a few donations to show the world I truly care about what I stand for"  the dude could give a rats ass about any of that poo. He didn't even show up to vote, and I don't think he's ever voted in his life. And I don't care about voting for the president, but at least vote for your local officials and congressman and for your states propositions. If he truly wants to have a voice and use the stage he has to inflict some serious changes in this country, there's a way to go about it, not seek attention for the wrong reasons just to resurrect your career.
    • I love Moton. The only thing that freaks me out about him is that he played for a small school. I do think he could've flourished for a big time program though.
