Dan Patrick breaking the story through Sports Illustrated. If you're not familiar with him, he's been in the NBA forever and has a twin brother named Jarron. Iirc, they both played college ball in Stanford.

Some details coming out...

Apparently he is currently a FA (i thought he was playing for Boston off the top of my head). He didn't even tell his own brother until just over a year ago, and it completely caught him off guard.

He says he still wants to play, but I think he may have just came out b/c he probably won't be signed and figured he had nothing to lose. He has been a career role player and is 34 years old.

He is a backup on the Wizards, played in 38 games this year and average 10 minutes. His career as an NBA player is pretty much done at this point, but its good to see players doing this. Makes it easier for the high profile guys to come out

I have known Jason Collins since he was Chelsea's classmate and friend at Stanford. Jason's announcement today is an important moment for professional sports and in the history of the LGBT community. It is also the straightforward statement of a good man who wants no more than what so many of us seek: to be able to be who we are; to do our work; to build families and to contribute to our communities. For so many members of the LGBT community, these simple goals remain elusive. I hope that everyone, particularly Jason's colleagues in the NBA, the media and his many fans extend to him their support and the respect he has earned.

I don't get the "Keep it to yourself" MeMe on The Golden Calf of Bristol.

If anything he gets a million times more attention than any other athlete.

Agreed, it's absurd.

I buddy of mine was talking the "God's favor allows The Golden Calf of Bristol to win in Denver" stuff a year or two back.

I'm fighting the urge to troll the poo out of him now.

chalk this up to the media fanning the the flames of angst and misery. its not like The Golden Calf of Bristol would run to the production truck after a big play when he was with the Broncos then run back to the side line so they show him on the sideline.

the media plays the general public like a cheap violin.

I don't get that either. Also it's not like the gay athlete is constantly talking about being gay or making out with dudes during games and after games, and making commercials about it etc.

Maybe The Golden Calf of Bristol should become an controversial abortion clinic doctor and we won't hear from him again in the media.
