Does Rivera seem happier?

He did seem happier to me, I assumed that's because he was working with/for a GM who is willing to listen and take action on more of his input.

There was a comment made in the presser about how the position coaches had a chance to provide input on the prospects and apparently they didn't before... Gettleman also said something along the lines of drafting a player the coaches didn't believe was a good scheme fit and Gettleman's take was it doesn't matter how good the prospect is if the coaches don't believe the player is a good scheme fit... lots of reading between the lines in those pressers.

Sounds like Hurney wasn't interested in the position coaches input and drafted the players he wanted to draft regardless of whether or not the coaching staff thought those players were a good scheme fit.... Seems like common sense to me that a GM would consider scheme fit and it may explain some of our struggles in the draft under Hurney.

I'm really feeling good about Gettleman and Rivera being able to get things going here, sounds like they are much closer and communicate much better than Rivera/Hurney did.

2 guys that have been in the league for more than 30 yrs.............love it!

How the hell can I show you? My post was full of I thinks and maybes. I'm hoping for a different result than last season just like the other 30 teams that didn't win it all. I'm talking no poo I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping this group can be special.

sorry bro, Im sick of getting my hopes up only to have them dashed year after year after year - the comment wasnt meant as a stab at you - I meant it realy about Gettleman, Rivera and the team in general - stop the s hi t talk and show me.

I think Rivera is just trying to hold back from laughing at Gettleman's terrible public speaking skills. The coughing, losing his voice mid-sentence, that overwhelming accent, frog in his throat, voice barely projecting into the mic, this guy needs an interpreter. Doesn't matter though because I love his picks. Build from the front lines outward.

Fair enough. I myself am a bit weary of our near decade since a playoff victory and 4 consecutive years of dissapointment. The "process" tha we have been force fed no longer excuses lack of production. The peices are in place and its time to see some results.

Put it this way; would you rather work with somebody who is like-minded or somebody who isn't?  These two guys could go to the bar and shoot the poo about football for hours. Marty was an idiot.

this is the feeling i get too. as a football guy trying to assemble a winning squad would you rather work with

1) joe person sr. arguing why it's a good idea to trade incredibly valuable picks for armanti "punter meat" edwards or

2) this mutherfuger

I could see where there could be mutual respect between Rivera and Gettlemen. Both worked hard, and long, to get where they are. Two football guys doing what they love.

Rivera took over a lousy team. We have improved every year. Why not again this year? Why is it so hard to put down that half full glass of past failures and see the future for what it is. Bright. We have a football guy running things for the first time in a decade. He has done more to improve this team in 2 months than our previous GM could even imagine.

I know the fearful and disgruntled feel they are justified in their thinking. Justified or not, I don't see the reward. I would much rather spend my valuable thinking time on good thoughts and dreams of glory. Than being depressed, and angry, about events I have no control over.

Sorry about the rant. And GOOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I think it's just that they speak the same language, so to speak. You can tell the communication is a lot better than with Hurney, who wasn't a football guy. Gettleman understands the X's & 0's as well as Rivera does.

I vaguely remember there were whispers that Rivera and Hurney didn't always work well together, but I don't think it was ever substantiated.

I'd agree that with Gettleman there's probably more likemindedness, more common language and terminology, and likely also more trust that he knows what he's doing given how much experience at personnel evaluation Gettleman has.

Guess you can sum it up by saying maybe he just feels better working with someone in whom he has confidence that he knows what he's doing.

I get this feeling as well.

Hurney was a buffoon, IMO.

He was not a football guy, and always seemed to me to not understand the X's and O's very well.  Never seemed to know which way the franchise should head, and had trouble accepting that this is a changed game from when he covered the Redskins as a beat writer.

Ron has much more in common with Gettleman than Marty.
