Anyone following this one/going to go see it?

Basically, for 12 hours a year there are no laws, and therefore no crimes. People can do what they want and not be punished.

Seems interesting.

And a seemingly Utopian society except for one barbaric law, a la Logan's Run.

Was excited about the premise, until I saw it's basically abandoned in the first 20 minutes to be a "Strangers" rip-off; people in masks outside the house, trying to get in and kill people for reasons unknown.  I mean shiz, right down to the scene with the girl sitting on the swing!  Originality fail.

But the trailer and premise alone did result in a bit of introspection. If there were a yearly Purge, would you be one of the people locked in the house, or would you be outside causing havoc?  I'd probably be inside, because while my intention would be to graffiti, steal cars and electronics and remove the tags from matresses, I'd know that there would be some nuts out there who were going to try to kill me. Probably some gun nut on his roof with a high-powered rifle just scoping out the front door of Best Buy. Inside, thanks.

Big budget does not equal a good movie. Nor does cheap equal bad movie.

True but if you start supporting cheap budgetted movies the next thing you know all movies will be made that way.  Just like how tv is now.
