So we can't use a 3-4 on running downs, hence the word rotation? Keeping CJ and Kraken off the field in passing downs is suicidal. But that doesn't mean they have to play on running downs.

Besides, ask Mark Sanchez if Davis can get to the QB.

We can (and do) sprinkle in some 3-4 sets.  But, we do not have the personnel to run it more than occasionally.  We would be massively exposed.

Occasionally, yes. We agree there. That's what I mean when I say rotation.

See, even tho we are both Panther fans and Huddlers, we can still be agreeable!

BTW, my sarcasm button was off just now....

I Wouldn't put it past Ron & McDermott try and put a 3-tech DT out as "DE" in some sets to get 3 big guys on the line

Especially if TD, Luke, and Beast are all healthy with Klein able to play a stay at home Mike.

Applewhite is no longer on the team.  Wish we would have kept him though.

If and when we run 3-4 schemes. All those guys will not be on the field. They bring in Hardy an CJ to play OLBs. The guys you listed are 4-3 guys. And the only one with some pass rush skill is TD.

Oh man, can you imagine us in the 3-4 with Dwan, Star, Short, CJ and Hardy all rushing the passer? That's going to wreck some QBs.

Let me put it this way. I would hope that when a situation comes up in a game where the lineup I have mentioned would be the best defense for what the opposing offense is likely to run, I HOPE the Panthers coaches are creative enough to realize this and put that lineup in.

Creativity is now a requirement for teams to succeed. If the offenses in the NFL can show new twists (and we know what kind of offenses I meanwithout having to type the words read or option, right?) then defenses are going to start having to be creative, too.

I personally am excited to see what will develop for the Panthers D this year. I REALLY hope it's the dawn of a revolutionary new defense like the zone blitz or Tampa-2.

Was Applewhite's injury a career stopper?  Not sure why we haven't entertained bringing him back for similar money to what he was making.
