Gettlemen continues to get criticism for not bringing in a WR

If Cam needs more weapons that Stew, DWill, Tolbert, Smitty, LaFell, Hixon, Ginn, Olsen to be successful......then he is nowhere near the QB that we all believe he is.

Actually, shows such as NFLAM and the like have cited Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as the archetypes for this philosophy of continuing to add talent around a QB.

Well, I have gone on record many times...I was a supporter of drafting WR talent....it made sense. Carolina isn't really building around Cam....which is sad. Our situation around Cam looks much better in our eyes than the outside world. Imagine if Ron goes this year and Smitty retires....sucks to be Cam.

the WR's that were there in the 2nd round are NOT any better than LaFell.

And, if you would have supported taking Patterson or Hopkins over Star at #14.....well, then there is no point in having any further discussions here.

What people don't understand is, we would have been in the playoffs last year if it weren't for crazy playcalling.  Cam has enough weapons to get this thing done when it comes down to it.  Cam has a better group of guys, than Brady did in his three superbowl seasons.  Brady didn't have a superstar receiver during those times.  He didn't have a great RB during his first two superbowl runs.  No, it was a great defense and great QB play that lead them to those victories.

I'm excited for our defense this year.  All we really need is to bring in a corner and we are straight.

We have built around Cam.  We have brought in a first round tight end in Olsen, we have an All pro in Smith and a productive second receiver in LaFell.  Ginn was a first rounder who has not been used to his potential and Hixon is a solid number 3/4.  We have 2 pro-bowl linemen and got a second round guard last year.  We have 2 first round running backs and a very productive guy out of the backfield in Tolbert.  We have given Cam plenty of weapons.  I fail to see how bringing in a guy in the second round to compete for the number 3 or 4 slot on the team would be addressing the position well while not doing so means we neglected it.  I would expect that from talking heads, not someone who say they actually follow the panthers and know the team.

The Patriots have the WORST wide receiving corp in the league.  And they plug and play nobody's in at RB.

So, shows that NFLAM has no clue what they are talking about.

We don't have the coaching staff for that "No Defense" philosophy those teams subscribe to.

And I am happy about that.

The Giants have a franchise QB in Eli with adequate weapons and a good defense. Gettleman might be leaning more this way after seeing it win Superbowls.

And BTW, if Cam hadn't had any weapons, we wouldn't be able to have that amount of ball posession we did last 7 games. We should be fine this year, althought WR will be a crucial draft pick next year imo.

And I really do hope we get another OL FA.

I wouldn't say that.  Those two tight ends alone when healthy, makes the Patriots a top 5 receiving core.  Yet during the Patriots superbowl years, Brady wasn't working with great receiver talent.  Troy Brown was good, but he wasn't a superstar.

I'm not saying I agree with them, just stating that's what was discussed.

I liked our picks.  Now, did I cringe when they called Patterson and Hunter's names off the board during the draft?  Yes.  But, you can't argue with our picks - we needed them.

I saw them discussing it on a segment citing Manning and Brady, but saying teams were trying to do the same with younger QBs to prop them up for the time being, namely Sam Bradford...  So, I would love to be able to do that for Cam, but Cam doesn't need that IMO.  Cam makes the others around him better.  Also, a team like the Rams spent years compiling young prospects on the defense, so they're in a position to keep adding guys on offense.

Also, even though LaFell is only in his fourth year, I don't have too much confidence he's a good number two.  Is he serviceable?  Perhaps.  Yet I would regulate him to your number three possesion receiver if you asked me.  I would promote Hixon to the number two. (Unless Gettis finally showed up.  Gettis is the only homegrown receiver we have, that has any potential of becoming a great receiver.)

I did not see the talent that was available where we picked unless we reached.

If you want and need a player....you go get him. You could argue lots of "reaches" if you look at the draft just through one teams eyes.

Do you spend tons of money on an offense to surround Cam while risking not being able to afford him long term? Or do you spend an average amount on the offense around him, sign him long term, and hope he can elevate players ala Tom Brady.

No like I have said...you should be consistantly DRAFTING young talent to grow up with Cam. We aren't....with Cam entering his 3 yr that makes what we are doing uniquely odd.
