So with the timing of the panthers reaching out to veterans like Woodson...is a major signing following?

Woodson? Or Greg Hardy extention?!

If it had to be one or the other I'd certainly be hoping for the Hardy extension.  However, I'd hope Gettleman has the tact to wait on it for a bit.  Taking money from Deangelo and then turning around and giving it to a teammate the next day or the next week would have to sting a little.

This should put us between $8-9mil in cap space (with JA's June 1st money going to the rookies).  That could easily be enough to sign Hardy to an extension AND sign a decent vet....assuming Hardy's deal is structured in such a way that the first year or two are lower cap hits.

Damn talk about loaded backfield. Great news though and good for Williams to help the team out.

.. could it be that he will be traded?

I hope not .. I've been an advocate for DWill staying since the beginning .. but did a team agree to a trade only if his contract was restructured?

Likely not I know since trades rarely happen in nfl .. but just a thought

Basically he stays 3 more seasons (counting this one) and retires in 2016. We save like a billion dollars in cap space next season and the one after that.

His salary reflects a lesser role, we keep a solid back, everyone is happy.

.. also I'm wondering if the Barner pick was a strategy to convince DWill to restructure?

It def gave Gettle leverage and prob made DWill and his agent paranoid as hell

Everyone on here is saying gettle magic, I really think it is a more of a great move by D Will  and shows that he really wants to be a Panther. Any moron could see something had to be done with his contract, but it would not be possible if D Will did not want to be here. I'm glad gettleman finished this, but any person would have done the same thing. Kind of GM 1.1 lite stuff.
