Someone mentioned swaddling. We used swaddling blankets that were like little sleeping bags with Velcro closures. It made wrapping my girl up tight really easy and she only occasionally got an arm out.

Swaddling was big for us too. His arms were like helicopters and they'd hit him in the face and wake him up. Swaddling kept that from happening. We had to slowly wean him off the swaddle lol.

When improperly swaddled my girl would scratch her face while sleeping and wake up with marks.

when the baby is asleep don't walk around the house being quiet, do your normal thing. if you start this every time the baby is asleep it will wake at every sound. the only draw back is now my son could sleep through anything and is very hard to wake up for school.

she'll be in the hospital for about four days according to the doc, so there'll be a nursery there. I can only get one day off, which sucks, but i'll be there every day except for late afternoons and evenings. not much I can do about it

Your employer has never heard of the Family Medical Leave act?

Also if your wife works and is going C Section the Dr should be able to get her Disability Pay no problem.

Does it apply to the service industry? Phiilyb is a bartender

i'm not sure if it applies or not. it might, but it's honestly going to screw up the entire operation if i roll out for any significant length of time. the shifts aren't real long though and i'll be able to head straight back to the hospital after i'm done, so i'm not really worried about it.

i hear kids are expensive too, so if it's feasible i don't want to give up the money.

Looks like there are requirements:

Coverage

(Q) What types of businesses/employers does the FMLA apply to?

The FMLA applies to all:

  • public agencies, including local, State, and Federal employers, and local education agencies (schools); and
  • private sector employers who employ 50 or more employees for at least 20 workweeks in the current or preceding calendar year – including joint employers and successors of covered employers.
Eligibility

(Q) Who can take FMLA leave?

In order to be eligible to take leave under the FMLA, an employee must:

  • work for a covered employer;
  • have worked 1,250 hours during the 12 months prior to the start of leave; (special hours of service rules apply to airline flight crew members)
  • work at a location where the employer has 50 or more employees within 75 miles; and
  • have worked for the employer for 12 months. The 12 months of employment are not required to be consecutive in order for the employee to qualify for FMLA leave. In general, only employment within seven years is counted unless the break in service is (1) due to an employee’s fulfillment of military obligations, or (2) governed by a collective bargaining agreement or other written agreement.

family medical leave act only guarantees unpaid leave...

that doesn't help very much if one needs the money.
