AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -- The ACC is "thoroughly investigating" playing its men's basketball tournament at Madison Square Garden, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

"We'll be playing there," a source said. "It's just a matter of getting all the legal ramifications worked out.

The 2014 and '15 ACC men's basketball tournaments will be held in Greensboro, N.C., but no decision has been reached beyond that. The tournament has been played every year since 1954, but only 11 times has it moved outside the state of North Carolina, and it hasn't been farther north than Maryland and Washington, D.C. The tournament has also been held in Georgia and Florida.

Pittsburgh's coach Jamie Dixon is one of the main proponents in moving the tournament to MSG, in my humble opinion Dixon needs to shut his trap. The ACC Tournament is vintage to North Carolina and has only left the state a few times since its conception. Hopefully they can sort this thing out and keep the tournament in North Carolina.

It's wasted in Greensboro though. Charlotte or MSG

It's not going to stay in Greensboro, the amount of money the ACC can make from having it in MSG trumps anywhere else they can hold it.

MSG has to be included because it's MSG, but I also don't want it to be a permanent home.  That is Greensboro.  Like it or not, the state of North Carolina is, and always will be, the ACC.  Until expansion potentially destroys it which is unlikely.

Rotate Greensboro and MSG, 2 or 3 years of each over a 5 year period and repeat.
