I also heard the rookie OG was on a bike but I have yet to hear what his issue is.

thats not the point at all. Hes injured, we dont know the extent and im sure he wants to be out there. This is just wasting time. We barely know anything. And you saying hes not making a good first impression is ridiculous.

We must have completely different definition of the colloquialism "a good first impression".

IMO, a good first impression would involve full participation in team activities, if not excelling at them.  In this instance, hearing that Kugbila spent most of OTAs on a stationary bike with a leg injury defines "not making a good first impression".

Kugbila would most likely agree that he did not make a great first impression.  This is no way an indictment on his ability, desire or willingness to participate.

Yea i interpreted it wrongly. But I think he made a good first impression at Rookie Camp, and he is apparently a very hard worker. But I guess i was just funneling off of what SCP said, that he should have just been out there regardless of his injury.

I get what you are saying though.  It's early, sucks he's not out there but there is not a lot he can do about it.

I was at the OTA practice today and he was wearing a practice jersey, but I don't know if or how much he actually participated.

Brett Jensen just tweeted that he's going to need a tummy transplant. There goes our Superbowl.

No biggy.  Worst case just PUP list him and bring him back when another CB gets hurt.

While I agree that any comparisons to Otah would be foolish, I do not think Kugbila can afford to miss time at this point in his development and that it is an important issue.

While I wish injury to no one on our team, Kugbila's health and participation are especially important at this juncture.  He is the main competition to supplant Hangartner as the starter at RG and has a lot to learn in order to accomplish this.  Not only is Kugbila a rookie from a D-II school, he only started 2 years for the Valdosa St Blazers and spent that time working out of a 2 point stance.  He is going to need to completely alter his stance, and numerous aspects of his game in order to be a competent NFL starter.

On top of this, and though he has a solid NFL frame, his workout at the combine put up some strength training red flags.  Only having 23 repetitions in the bench press is not very impressive.  He is going to need serious time in an NFL weight room to fill out his frame and meet his natural potential.

Though Kugbila has a "high ceiling" (I hate this cliché) he is a very raw talent and needs every practice he can get if he has any hope of competing at RG this year.

His bench press number is low due to his long arms....... While he may have to learn new technique i have no doubt he will pick it up  .....the coaches and the GM says that  he has pretty good instincts

I am not knocking the kid, though I believe he will benefit immensely by an NFL weight training program.  He had the 8th longest arms in the draft among lineman (34.88 inches) and only 2 with longer arms put up more reps (Rogers Gaines 28, Lane Johnson 28).

That being said, D.J Fluker has 36.75 inch arms.  That is ridiculous.....
