Canes Lose Hoffman and Mahalak

This happened a few days ago, but it's still worth mentioning...

Gregory Hoffman and Matt Mahalak were not signed to contracts before the deadline meaning that both will reenter this years draft.

Hoffman (fourth round) and Mahalak (sixth round) were both selected by the Hurricanes in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Mahalak becomes the second goalie prospect that Carolina has lost in the past two years (Frederick Andersen).

Speaking of Andersen, him and Hoffman have the same agent.

Don't be surprised if the Canes stay away from drafting/signing free agents with that particular agent.

Hoffman and his Swiss team couldn't reach an agreement so his rights remain with the Canes.

He's alright, he may have some potential but he's nothing to overly excited about.
