He's a talented rapper.  The reason white people tend to think he sucks is they've only heard the music of his that has been made exclusively to market to white people.

/fact

Eh, he was certainly a better rapper than he is now, his music is terrible now. Absolutely terrible. A lot of true hip-hop fans disown him.

I think his drop in quality is attributed to how fuged up he is all the time. The guy is addicted to cough syrup and blunts. Of course he is going to make terrible music.

His music was never that good. His punchlines were once pretty clever, but it wasn't substance hip-hop (no pun intended?), just one liners again and again.

To get a top 100 lil' wayne song list you need to get rid of another 100.

He's doing something right with a net worth of over $100M

If you believe making money is a indicator of how good music is.

Me, I think it's just an indicator of how dumb people are and their ability to purchase a fabricated studio "artist"

Hip hop basically died with biggie. Save a few jayz and Eminem albums and a select few other artist over the years. I can listen to pre 2000 rap all day long and never get tired of it but the standard post 2000 recycled ghetto garbage is rediculous.

And its not about his syrup habit.. DJ screw and ugk lived on that poo in the 90's and made classics.

I would like to correct the misnomer that hip hop is dead.

MAINSTREAM hip hop has been dying a slow death since the 90's.

You can blame media conglomerates for that one, for catering to young people with this bubble gum/pop-rap stuff that has taken over.

There is a lot of hip hop still out there, alive and kicking. You just have to dig to find it.

Lil Wayne is just too deep for y'all. His lyrics are deep, thought provoking, poetic, and cryptic. Very few people can understand his true genius.

Seriously though, if you think Wayne is bad try listening to 2Chainz or Chief Keef.

and to expound, the worst part about that point is that from a "popularity" standpoint lil wayne isn't even the most premier example of artificially built recording artists with seemingly unlimited promotion and support. who am i referring to? oh i don't know who sings the song that goes like "ah seen way too many people that i didnt know last year, whodafugayaawwwww..."
