So for 2 days now my ac has not cooled to the 72 I have it set at. It gets up to about 78 during the hottest point of the day. I can put my hand up to the vents and feel cool air coming out but not enough obviously.

Is this a DIY project I can tackle or do I need a pro?

Thanks in advance.

Just got mine fixed. When is the last time you changed your filters?

Probably needs a freon charge. If so, you'll need to call a pro. Hope you're not using r-22.

Could be a number of things. Filters could be dirty, coils could be dirty, coolant levels could be low, among others.

Chances are it is one of those three things though.

Have you went outside and looked into your unit? Mine's done that before and it was because the coolant was low and it had a slow leak. The pipes outside under the fan had a layer of ice on them and were frozen solid.

If you find ice, you can turn off your air and try to get it off yourself by warming the line (with a hairdryer?) to thaw it, and then turn your air back on. It will eventually refreeze, but it might be a temporary fix until you can get a tech out.

72?? Jesus. I keep mine at 78. 72 would cost me out the ass on my power bill.

Sounds broken. I just got a whole new system inside and out a few months ago. I keep it icy

I go 78 too, but have it on 75 right now and will keep it that way for a few days to make sure it really is fixed.

I was having the same problem. I took out the filter in he AC unit and cleaned it off with the hose. It feels cooler now for sure. I'd give that a shot before paying a guy to come do it.
