The Gullah Lady is actually someone who does this all the time along with a whole group of actors. Looks like she and others joined in this event as a remembrance sort of thing. Not sure the bloggers are on target on this one.

I doubt that he forced the two African American gentlemen with him to dress as slaves.  You should have issue with them....not the lt gov.

But then again....that would not fit in with your constant view that all white's are racist.

It is not disgusting at all. Everybody involved is doing it willingly and for fun. Why is this even an issue? Reenactments of all kinds take place all over the country. Are we going to censor and shame every one of them if it even has a glimpse of something that some find distasteful? I find a lot things of TV, music and magazines very distasteful like glorifying violence, promoting women to be sex objects and/or obtain an image or size that is unrealistic. Constant vile language. Yet it seems any arguments against goes unnoticed or are considered promoting censorship.

Would you find a Holocaust reenactment party offensive?

Is the Gullah Lady not a paid performer?

Maybe I read it wrong, but she and her group seemed to be a part of this reenactment for which her group is trying to preserve and promote?

http://thegullahlady.wix.com/thegullahlady

If it were as the Cantrell tried to portray, then I could see the angst, but if it was just the reenactment Civil War stuff, then, meh.

If the Gullah group, who also does reenactments wanted to be a part, then no big deal. By the way, which side is the SC Lt Gov on?
