We need to STOP grooming players for contending teams. If we let him walk, we are hitting the reset button again on yet another position. And whoever we would draft to replace him probably won't be averaging 15.5 ppg without being a liability on the defensive end.

Henderson is one of the few players we drafted that actually turned out to be a solid pick. He is a great defender, smart player and still developing. He now is entering his Prime and with the new staff- I only see bigger and better things from him.

Now I'm not saying break the bank for him, I'm saying give him a solid, market value contract- maybe even a little above to make sure he stays (let's be honest, this is Charlotte). I don't think a 3-4 year contract @ $5 mil a year is too steep (not my money, lol)

Kemba and Sessions and Hendo have combined to become a pretty solid back court. If we give the man what he is worth then we can focus on those other 3 front court positions in the draft and FA, this year and next.

I've been saying this forever, it's about time someone agreed with me.

The only free agent shooting guard that averaged more points per game than Hendo was J.R. Smith.

By the way, this was a really solid post.

I do not think 5 million per year will be quite enough to keep him here but I do not think he will get 7 million per from any other teams. Somewhere in between will work just fine and be a good value for a 25 year old averaging 15-16 ppg. Tender him, let him test the market and then come back with a five year/30 million dollar offer. Let the 5th year be a team option. Reasonable on both sides.

It all depends on the price. I am sure that the team wants resign him but if a team blows his market out if the water should we overpay just to keep him?

I think we resign him. It seems like he wants to be here and we want to keep him. But free agency is always a crazy game.

My guess is we will sign him to a whatever the restricted free agent contract
Is and will match any deal that isn't unreasonable

I've always wanted to keep him.  He plays hard, even on a terrible team.  If you look at his body of work the last 2-3 months, he was on point.  I think we need to lock him up and if we have to overpay a little, that's ok, that's something we have to get used to being a small market.   I'd hope a new coach could use him better too.

I wouldnt mind hitting the reset button on Hendo for say Shabazz.  I think Hendo has hit his ceiling.  Shabazz ceiling is much higher.  Drafting Bennet with our pick, Shabazz with the pick we get for Hendo, and then sign Al Jefferson in Free agency.  man I got goose bumps.  Or even keeping Hendo and trading MKG to pick Shabazz.  I know MKG was a rookie but he just looks lost at times.

Walker

Shabazz

Bennett

MKG

Jefferson

If the way he played at the end of last season is his ceiling and he can maintain that, then that's awesome.  Post All-star break he averaged 18.9ppg, 4rbr, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steals and shot around 46% from the field.  His 3pt % dropped in the second half but the first half he shot around 40% so I assume he could still be an OK shooter from there.

This was on a very BAD team too.   You give him some help, and he could get better (no I don't think he's hit his ceiling completely).  If you give him some REAL defense help down low, I think he'll be even better defending outside.  Not to mention you have a guy that can fill in at SF at times too.  Plus he WANTS to play here, and is a classy guy, please sign him to something reasonable.

So I think if you can sign him, then you can worry about the other holes like the front court.  THAT is what is killing us IMO.

Lost me with the higher ceiling on Shabazz.. His conditioning and explosiveness are seriouly questioned.

If you mean he is taller...

Who have we ever groomed for another team? Felton? DJ? I like Hendo but I love him more as a player of the bench. He's improved every season but we all know he's not the long term answer.

If he's willing to take 5 million a season, then great keep him. If not he's not worth the cost and he should be allowed to walk. He's not really worth much more then 5 million a season and is a backup on most teams.

Also Walker, Bismack and MKG aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They will get the next 2-3 years to develop together.

Depends on asking price.  If its 5-6 million, im OK with that.  Henderson isnt an All-Star SG by any means, but a very solid starter.

Hendo is a good player that scores quietly and is a solid defender. I don't see us finding anyone else through free agency as young and cheap as he will be that will contribute to the team as much as Hendo does (through ppg, defending, etc.). As long as the price is right, we should look to bring him back.

That is all contingent on who we draft however. If we draft an Oladipo, McLemore or Shabazz (if we move back of course), then Hendo becomes more expendable. We can afford to save cap space and hope to groom our new pick into our starting 2 guard. Otherwise, Hendo should stay for another couple years.

Orrrrr....let him walk, save cap, tank the entire season for Jabari or Wiggins next year to fill his role.

Question about Parker and Wiggins.  If we do draft one of those 2 next year(I can only hope) what do we do with MKG?  They all play the same spot.

Parker could potentially play the 2, 3, or 4.  He's a Carmelo type guy.

Wiggins could play the 2 or 3.  Either of those two and MKG could co-exist rather easily.

Wiggins and MKG would be a heckuva defensive tandem on the wings as well.  If we could only be so lucky.  This franchise deserves a #1 pick next year.
