either way its better than anything the falcons intend to call that alien butthole dome

Actually looks better than the bar room. Did you buy that plastic molding, seems your not getting an even stain on your molding, you could have done a light sanding to help open up the wood if you got any left to stain. Not sure what possessed you to go with Venetian plaster look, it's really dated, are you actually happy with result?

oh yeah and the best part is that my wife and i bought it as a cheap forclosure, pumped ~15k into it, and as of last month it's paid off after less than two years of ownership, thanks to both of us dedicating 60-70 hours a week to pay it off. now the tax value has increased substantially and we've got some pretty sweet digs to live in, and now our income can be pumped into acquiring new properties and establishing rental income that'll allow us to purchase a piece of property and build a communal property on it that'll integrate foster programs and organic altruism through local and international networking and make a tangible impact on a community with great need.

this is part of my life plan, and the fact that it's been fun as hell to work on (and that i have a sweet spot to watch panthers games on sundays) is just icing on the cake.

So basically your life plan is do what I did, except you're 10 years behind. Good to know

Fat Pat, why don't you take a picture with your face in it and the housing in the background just so we know it's actually yours?

Just to prove your validity.

i actually meant to start a thread in the lounge about home renovation projects, so i guess this will do nicely. that kitchen was absolutely hideous when i bought it... the house was built in '64, and everything was original... peeling bright blue laminate counters, matching cabs, nasty laminate flooring, wallpaper, waist-high brady bunch oven mounted between cabinets, dodgy electric range, the works. i spent two days ripping it all out with a wrecking bar and put in a tile floor, grouted it, and then shifted the doorway leading from the mancave to the kitchen over by about four feet, extending the wall space in both rooms by the same amount and allowing significantly more countertop space in the kitchen and couch space in the lounge.

the kitchen wasn't complete at this point, but here's a picture of it nearly finished

i am pretty proud of that arch. i installed chair rail and stained it, opted against beadboard (because i spent a week installing it in the man cave/downstairs lounge and it was an utter bitch) and hand-troweled venetian plaster texturing on the walls of both the kitchen and the lounge, all of which took probably 100+ man hours to complete properly. i also threw in laminate flooring in the lounge:

...after ripping out the paneling in the walls and scraping up the old floor. i redid all the window framing and added that bar in the OP. i don't have pictures of it but i also converted the downstairs bathroom from a half bath to a full, which was a bitch and required calling in a buddy of mine to help run the plumbing since i'm a poo plumber. i can sweat a joint but that's about it.

i re-did the roof in july, which was an absolute bitch in the heat but also necessary because the old stuff was going to be a liability eventually. i took about three days off work, strapped scaffolding to the roof of my shitty 1987 volvo stationwagon like a sonofabitch and knocked out that fugin roof for about $1200 in materials (about $100 of which was gatorade.)

once the downstairs was done we moved to the upstairs, all of which basically needed a fresh coat of paint and some trim work. i don't have a very good picture of it, but here's a shot of the living room and bay window after i painted it. all the furniture was clustered away from the walls so i couldn't find a good spot to stand

the final frontier is the upstairs bathroom, which i busted ass on to get functional by the time i left for peru so my wife would be able to do everything upstairs from our room instead of using the downstairs bathroom while it was being renovated. i don't have pictures of that yet... and it's not done anyway, i still need to put up molding around the ceiling. my office is pretty sweet too, but i don't have pictures of that either because it's currently jammed full with all the poo that used to be in our spare bedroom (now a nursery) and i'll have to find a way to get rid of as much crap as possible to get my space back. i'm also putting in a deck out back. it's structurally complete, but it rained the week before i left so i wasn't able to screw in the deck boards and lattice, so that's still waiting for me when i get home. after that the place should be complete.

this thread is now about home renovation projects!

Thats nice work especially on the arch. Ive got zero skills at construction.
