If we have such amazing players that don't need to be upgraded why have we been so bad? Do we have all the ingredients and they are just too young? No to be honest if we have an opportunity to upgrade with another young player you do so.

That statement makes no sense, at all.  Henderson is the same age as Mayo, at the ripe old age of 25.  Mayo is NOT an upgrade, and that's the point.  The reason we've been bad is we've had the worst front court in the league since probably the beginning of existence.   Yet people want to walk about getting a new SG that isn't even better than the one we have.   We need a true center, that's the biggest need right now, not OJ Mayo.  Obviously people have watched more of Mayo shooting 3's than Henderson playing all-around good ball.

Hardly homerism, but what IS true is that Bobcats/Hornets fans underrate Henderson.  If he wasn't as good as I'm saying, do you think other teams would be wanting him?  We'd sign him to a 4-5 mill a year contract easily!  The rest of the league realizes that Hendo is a good SG, why can't you?

FYI, Mayo WAS the #1 scoring option in Dallas for a good chunk of the season, when Dirk came back though, he slid down to maybe 2nd scoring option, but no less of a "option" than Henderson was.  I also don't understand how it's not a compliment that if the other team knows someone is a #1 scoring option, and yet they STILL score like Hendo does.

Stop wanting a new player just to have a new player, it's silly.  I'd rather focus on actual upgrades to the team, like a big.   You guys like 9 years old and want a new toy when your old toy is just as good and maybe even better?

I guarantee you Mayo will receive more interest and money than Hendo on the open market. Also stop putting words in my mouth I never said Hendo wouldn't receive interest. All I was saying is that Mayo is better than Hendo.

Look at GotSwag's post, he said it all. It's about the fit. Mayo's skill set fits better than what Hendo provides. That is what I have been saying. Do I like Hendo? Yes but for 1m-2m more I would prefer Mayo. If its anymore than that I would stay with Hendo.

I wasn't saying Hendo is old. I was saying if we have a chance to upgrade with a young guy as well you gotta take the chance. For me Mayo is an upgrade

Everything pretty much points to Hendo being better.  Mayo is good if Hendo goes elsewhere.   Hendo can shoot the 3 if it's asked of him.  I'll take Hendo's superior defense over Mayo's extra 3 here and there.   People also forget that Hendo wants to actually play here, I doubt very few others want to.

I can see what you're saying. I would love to have a player on the team that could really stretch the floor like Mayo can, but at the same time I'd probably prefer Hendo since he is the better all around player. Hopefully Kemba and Hendo can improve upon their range next season and become reliable 3pt shooters. That would be ideal to me.

I have a question for all of you who don't see Mayo as an upgrade to Hendo.

Who do you all see as an upgrade to guys on our current roster?

Through FA who would you all like to upgrade this year?

Kemba

Hendo

MKG

Zeller
Biz

Now I am going to put a restriction on this question. We seem to all be in consensus that the 2014 draft will possibly net us a franchise player so don't pick a player who would take us out of the lottery. Also saying upgrade doesn't mean replace the starters could come off the bench after picking this player.

If we keep Hendo, then maybe only the 5, but even then, we need to see what Biz can do.  It's too early to upgrade most of those guys.  I'd say maybe Pekovic over Biz because I sometimes see Biz as a more off the bench high energy defensive guy.  But I'd say mostly go with that roster and see how MKG does after another year and see how Biz is after working with Ewing and getting another year to develop.

I think "Bobcats" fans on this site sometimes watch other teams more than they are watching the Bobcats (Dallas for example). Hendo has been good on a terrible team, pair him with respectable people not named Kemba and he'll be good to go. You're right stats aren't always the end all, but when everything points to Hendo stat wise, and when Hendo's defense is much better, and when Hendo actually wants to play here.......

Jeff Taylor is a bench player, not a starter, that's why he was a 2nd rounder, I like him, but he can't replace Hendo, and MKG plays SF.

Taylor being a 2nd rounder does not mean he can't play. He had a very good career at Vandy and showed some promise last year as a rookie. Taylor may not be as athletic as Hendo but he has the potential to be a better player than Hendo, seriously. And, I'm sure our fans doesn't watch other teams more than the Cats. That's insane.

I doubt that, considering we get a name change and all of a sudden we have lurkers posting with 200 posts wanting a new toy and not knowing anything about Henderson.  Taylor most likely won't be better than Hendo, he can be a decent player though.  Bringing up Taylor though reminds me of another plus to Henderson, the fact he can play SF also if we need him to and bring that defense.

Considering I almost have 200 posts, I can take it you are referring to me. Ask me what you want to know about Hendo. I have been to Bobcat games and could have cared less about the name change. I would support them no matter the name.

Now since you and I have a difference in opinions about the directions of the team that is fine and I will enjoy debating on it. My lack of posts mean nothing about lack of knowledge.

I also like to have some fun with the 200 post new posters on here, but in no means does that justify that they haven't been bobcats fans till now. Gotta remember that a lot of guys come on here to read news instead of posting and others like me in the past have follow for a long while before registering an acct. Theres thousands of fans who probably doesn't even know about this forum. Many others are also on the "Bobcats" forum. This is actually the small, I mean small group of cats fans here.

But, Hendo is a guy who's not going to hurt us if we lose him. He's just another guy on the team; a role player. Taylor is more a SF, but he has the ability to slide to the 2 position.

Adding a guy like Mayo would helps Kemba, MKG, and Zeller. Kemba has someone to kick the ball out to and defenders are going to stay honest with Mayo leaving Zeller one on one. Mayo and MKG goes well more so than Hendo who's pretty much another similar guy to MKG.

Eh, I don't see Taylor being anything more than an athletic 3 and D player. Nothing wrong with that and every team needs em, but that's his peak imo. He will never be able to create his own offense that way Hendo is capable of, although he could become a better defensive player.

Taylor was a better offensive player coming out than Hendo was, and he has a pretty good 3point range. Hendo's offensive game wasn't so good and he managed to improve his jumper. So, i dont get what you mean, especially when Taylor is the better shooter.

And, I didn't mean to make it sound like Taylor should make a switch to the 2. More so that he'll be able to play the 2 on situation.

What I mean is that Taylor isn't able to create his own shot and has always been best as a spot up shooter. Henderson has always been able to create his own shot. Don't get me wrong, I really like Taylor, but he is a spot up shooter, a 3 and D player at this juncture, and the chances that he will be able to create his own shot consistently in the future is quite low. Honestly the main reason why he was drafted in the 2nd round is because he is a 3 and D player. He is really athletic, can throw down nasty dunks, play great defense, and shoot well from three... but there is a catch... he is strictly a spot up shooter. Otherwise, if he were everything that I listed, plus able to create his own shot then he would've been a top pick. He's just always been considered a 3 and D player. Really, nothing wrong with that.

I agree.
But that sounds like a good 6th man off the bench. Sounds almost like the guy on the Spurs team that many people were drooling over (Danny Green). Not saying he's as deadly a 3point shooter as Green but eventually could be somewhat similar. IMO, both Hendo and Taylor are role player and better 6th man off the bench. I just have no problem replacing Hendo with Taylor. There's little to lose. It's not like we're trying to replace Harden.
