Panthers to ink Quintin Mikell?

This got my imagination going. If we do get him, who loses out? Besides Nakanotgotit? How many S do we keep? 3 CB and 5 S? I know Rivera loves having S that can do more than run support.

I can see 3S, 2CB, 2LB, and 4DL sets. Pressure and cover. It may be unorthodox, but I think I can live with that. Call it the Rivera cover 3.

we already run most of our defense out of the nickel. we typically have 5 DBs on the field.

The Cam effect in full bloom. A top rated player actually thinking about coming here. The players throughout the league see what we are doing. Even if the media has no clue.

I don't see this as one of those 1 year deals. If we get him, it probably will be a multi year deal. I can live with that.

the Cam effect?

I think Mikell would be a nice addition.

But, calling a player who is unsigned in July a "top rated player" is a bit of a stretch

i doubt a multi-year deal because of his age. He was last in the pro-bowl in 2010. Was cut by the rams because of his 9 million cap hit.

Yeah, that's a huge upgrade and could solidify the D.

well this instantly upgrades our secondary. we get two veteran safeties. if this happens, it is a great signing.

Great Front 7....Very solid S's....young and agressive CB's.  Daddy likes.

Rivera will continue his streak of top D's.  It took 3 seasons in SD to field the top ranked D.  Now Gettlemen has given him the pieces to do it again here.

it's not only that but i am really liking our depth as well.

mitchell, alexander, cole, kk,

we have people that can slide in and still help maintain the status quo.

But those are usually 2 CB and Munny. Which isn't a bad package. But I am sure that Rivera loves his Safeties. Especially ones that can cover as well as aid in run support.

IMO, it all comes down to how they want to defend. Man to man would probably mean a CB on each WR. Whereas, if they go zone, he may like to use that added Safety. I guess it depends on how they rank the WRs. Not many teams have more than 2 WRs to worry about.

Safeties tackle better. If they can cover, I can see Rivera using them. But hey, according to my inlaws, I am wrong quite often. So there is that aspect.

Mikell would make us better. That, I can live with.

I agree....depth on D is actually a strength now.

Will definitely help that unit not lose steam late the the 4th quarter.
