Lester's abilities lie as a center fielder with ball hawking skills, as attested by his 14 career INT's.

While his size would indicate he's built for the SS job, tackling really isn't a strength of his. I don't think he ever broke 50 combined tackles in a season, maybe once. He's a FS in all reality. His game is similar to a guy like FS Kerry Rhodes.

IDK, safeties are becoming more interchangeable these days anyway with the multiple receiver sets and TE's.

Davis was a much more attacking/tackling at the line S at Georgia when he make the switch.

@SteveReedAP: Panthers coach Ron Rivera says rookie Edmund Kugbila tweaked a hamstring in practice. Unclear if it's related to knee issue in OTAs.

Time to sign Wharton or Brandon Moore (not retired)

Ummm, no it's not. He was basically playing LB at Alabama last year. Lester is better off there since his hips aren't on par with other DBs.

Agree, TD was an in the box safety at UGA, if Lester can't stick at S there's no reason to not give him a shot at LB. He has the size, is a good tackler, would have great speed for a LB and is a thumper.

Lester is not that great of a tackler. He takes some bad angels at times. He thrives in coverage which didnt look good last year at Bama. But, thats his game; a ballhawker. Lester is not the player Davis was at UGA or say an Alec Ogletree for the Rams, another UGA product who had experience playing the safety position.

At this point, we need Lester to compete for a needy Safety position, not a stacked LB spot.

His best year came at playing FS in 2010 while Barron at SS. He struggled mightily last year as the SS. He's also not a great tackler. Unless something happens (injury), its a terrible idea. Especially when we already have good depth at LB and Safety is the one who needs depth.

If anything we probably should try Kuechly at SS.

Lester has ball-hawking abilities but let's not get ahead of ourselves. He struggled in coverage while being a Free Safety too because he plays stiff. Keep in mind, Lester was great in coverage during his college tenure but that doesn't mean squat when you arrive in the NFL. The Golden Calf of Bristol didn't exactly light the NFL on fire with his passing abilities.

Yes, he takes bad angles but that's coachable. His tackling technique is surprisingly very good but his angles and aggressiveness make Lester appear worse than he truly is as a defender.

Let's just stick him at Safety especially when he's doing well there. Let's not try going over board moving him around when we dont need to.

It's merely an option if he struggles at safety this year.

At least we have a lot of quality depth at guard.

Pics from today. Favorites are Cam acknowledging the kids yelling "CAM!! CAM!!" over and over. Waved to them and gave the a thumbs up. Uploaded from my phone...sorry if they are a bit wonky.
