I'm probably in the minority here, but i don't even think he needs to be much of a blocker. i mean it would be nice to have more help there, esp. considering how ugly the big uglies are so far, but i think that he's gonna be someone that defenses always have to account for everytime he's on the field. there's gonna have to be a spy put on him him anytime he's on the field because there are so many ways he could be used and because of the damage he'd be able to do so quickly after touching the ball. his presence on the field will help cam out because it forces attention away from him. basically it takes a potential pass rusher out of the equation.

of course all of that depends on his usage and his ability to not suck when he's on the field. I'm just seeing a lot of outside of the box potential with this guy.

Cam gushing about a 6th round draft pick and mentioning him repeatedly in interviews probably bodes well that Shula and Cam are gonna utilize him. Can't wait to see if he's got it at the next level.

So many posts saying meh...not impressed..lol

A lot of Huddlers are Like a bunch of porn desensitized married guys...no joy in beauty anymore...

I remember specifically saying "watch this play" where Barner gets stood up by the entire usc d-line and jukes and evades like 5 blockers and dives for a first down on 3rd and 2. people were just like, "he looks slow"

wtf

I can honestly say, after watching Kenjon Barner live, I think he may be the fastest player on the team. I'd like to see him, and whoever else, race.

I'm not sure it will be a matter of getting a lot of snaps. i think he'll end up with significantly less than williams, stewart, and even cam. i just think his skill set and the situations will be able to translate into big yardage plays and if it's anywhere near the red zone he could wind up easily breaking off into the end zone. his touches will likely be limited, but his yards per touch won't be.

btw, i think he'll translate just fine into the pros. i don't see him as being much as a blocker, but i also don't think you expect him to be. he's a big play weapon. that's all.

With a franchise QB like Cam....he still has to be good enough at blocking to trust on the field. If he can be that....by year end I think we could easily see the fan base start jumping on his bandwagon and off part of double trouble.

I think Ginn has everyone beat. He probably is second. Gettis might have more top end speed but I would wager Barner gets into top gear quicker

I'm not even sure that Gettis has more top end speed. Barner is also a former track star, so gettis doesn't have the advantage of track running over him. Ginn is also fast, and smooth, but damn Barner is like lightning.

Has there been a camp update yet where someone doesn't ask about Gettis?

Gettis is a player who has great potential, but hasn't lived up to it due to injuries. This is his last camp to see if he's got what it takes. It won't stop and for good reason.

Barner is going to be a weapon........at no time should he be blocking.

He won't be there to fool a defense but to put it under stress.

Someone on D is going to have to cover him in the open field.........good luck.

He is our "scat-back"  the coaches have been looking for.

If he is going to be in shotgun spread sets....he absolutely has to be able to block if called upon.

Unless you just expect us to run a draw every play he is in or a zone read.

Can't have someone who can't block be called to block an overloaded blitz with an audible. Sproles....while tiny....doesn't suck at pass protection

Barner is going to be called into shotgun formations, but he's going to be used in screen passes. In fact, there was a nice little screen pass to DWill that went just like that today.

Also, I expect him to line up as a receiver in a 5 wide set, coming out of the backfield, as well.

But again, to be on the field for those type plays....they still have to trust he can sufficiently pass protect if need be to routinely see the field.

Darren Sproles is basically what you want him to be....Sproles wouldn't see the field as much if he couldn't pass protect if need be. Sproles can. Barner will have to prove he can step up and pass protect to be a routine fixture as a a Sproles type weapon.

I wouldn't expect much 5 wide....that isn't the Norv tree or Shula way.

there are ways to get around his lack of blocking that doesn't immediately give the defense a clue about what he is doing or what we are doing.

Gettis has that intriguing combo if size and speed. Given his pretty solid rookie season, he has the physical skills to be very good.

That combo can't be taught and I believe everyone just hopes he can out us together.
