We will keep 7. That 7th spot will be between Pilares and Adams. I think Adams. Let him learn under Ginn so that he can be our returner of the future.

I think we'd be better off using that extra spot on a LB or O-lineman

I'll be blunt, if Ginn's horrible route-running from Thursday is all we'll get from him as a receiver this year than he really shouldn't be considered a lock unless we're going to keep someone based purely on his return skills, and the looks Kenjon Barner have gotten there combined with Pilares, Adams and Armond Smith's abilities doesn't make him that necessary.

Ginn pretty much poos all over guys like Pilares, Smith when it comes to returning. I'll throw Adams in that too is talking kick returns

There is no competition for our #1 or #2 WR spots...

Kinda sad that the most legit competition in a decade is who will be the 3 or 4....

#1 is Steve effing Smith, #2 is the continually improving and yet underrated by his own fanbase Brandon LaFell. And LaFell has been pretty open about feeling the heat behind him.

That may be, but I can't get the sight of him running entirely the wrong way repeatedly out of my mind. As a veteran player there's no reason he should be that far behind when we don't use a lot of option route concepts.

this is why I do a depth chart. So that I can see what's possible. Every other poster will say "I'd rather use that extra spot on a CB" or "I'd rather use that spot on another o-lineman", etc, etc. If you already have an interpretation of what you think the roster will look like, you wouldn't have to make such statements as you'll see that what you are saying actually is still possible even if another area has a certain number of players at that position.

Yeah, I looked at your depth chart before commenting, and noticed that you had 3 backup LB, and 3 backup OL... 2/3 backup OL you have listed are injured, and no one knows how Beason is gonna look when he actually plays- that's why I thought an extra LB or OL would be of more use.

Maybe. Depends on what we can find after the Aug 31st cuts.

Gettis, Adams and maybe Pilares will get claimed by other teams if we cut them.

KK, I'm not trying to be funny, but wth does Adams have to learn? Returning is a natural skill, really, and Adams has done it for years.  Ginn can't teach him how to catch the ball. Ginn surely can't teach him how to hold on to the ball, as he's had fumbleitis issues during his career himself.

If we look to the future, I think we will keep Adams (provided he holds on to the ball).  If we're not concerned about the long term future, then I think that they'll weigh everything else that Pilares does in conjunction with his avg returning, vs Adams potential electricity at returning.  I think that Barner has outplayed return duties, but he's always an option for the future if they decide to dump them both.

As you can see, I don't put too much stock in Ginn being here for more than a year, but wonders never cease.

If/when we sign another OL, Kearse I think is gone. There's your extra o-lineman. The coaches could also view Hartsock as virtually useless after preseason and cut him too. There's your extra LB. You don't have to just cut a WR. I look at who contributes the most and who deserves it.

Sad? I'd go with "great."

Pretty nice luxury to have a #1 as good as Smitty for so long. The number 2 spot is another discussion entirely...

I agree, I can not see Ginn here next year, if Joe Adams shows stops fumbling the ball and plays well I would almost cut Ginn to give a younger guy a shot, assuming Ginn does not improve as a receiver over the next several weeks.

Just cut Hixon then.  He's no good to the Panthers on a bike and has missed so much of camp, where will his rhythm be?

Doesn't matter who 1 and 2 are....

If your most legit competition in a decade is who your 3 or 4 WR is....that is weak. Smitty should be a 2 at this stage but we have neglected WR
