I don't really think McCrory is a part of the presidential material club. He has a bachelors from Catawba College. No graduate level education.
Not saying that would necessarily disqualify him since others are from similar backgrounds (Reagan, Johnson), but he doesn't have the name recognition/personality that Reagan did and he's not going to luck into office through resignation like Johnson.
To be president, you have to be a part of the good ol boys club, whether you are republican or democrat.
Everything is relative.
Another darling of the TP with presidential aspirations doesn't even have a degree!
Can Walker win without a college degree?
But while the former Milwaukee County Executive became the Badger State’s first governor in 64 years to lack a university diploma, operatives on both sides acknowledge a presidential run would reopen scrutiny surrounding the choice.
After all, the last president to be elected without a college degree was Harry Truman, close to 70 years ago. It’s even been more than three decades since the country has sent someone to the White House who didn’t graduate from an Ivy League School.
Americans have a penchant for picking presidents they’d like to share a beer with, but they’re also inclined to favor those who have achieved more than themselves.
“A college degree seems like low-hanging fruit,” said one GOP operative who has tracked Walker’s career but requested anonymity in exchange for candor. “[George W.] Bush was pillared for being a B/C student at Harvard. Walker is in a tough spot. I think he has limitations.”
