another reason neg rep was great. koolkatluke and carolina-chuck could've long ago been banished to smack and the two biggest derailers/childish bickerers would no longer be pooping all over each other in front of disgusted onlookers

those two are kind of at the center of a lot of it.

at least for now.

i'm holding off on the bans and even warning points for now. partly because i haven't looked to see how to do it.

once i get it figured out i'm going all king kong with it, though.

Don't lock? People complain

Do lock? People complain

All we can do is what we feel best, knowing it will get complained about no matter what we do.

We are trying to elevate the discussion in the main forum. The quality has gone down as of late. Everyone can help by stopping the incessant bickering and posting more quality.

Ah"fuging"men

haha i hate to keep griping about this because i'm not trying to come down on anyone, but here goes another one, locking a colt mccoy thread for no reason other than "five pages is enough for colt mccoy"

not intended as a dig at rayzor at all, easily a top 5 poster and i'm sure i couldn't do the job, but locking threads for no reason is worse than locking them for bad reasons. locked threads look like poo on a page. overmodding sucks. IMO what's made this forum so successful is mods speaking softly but carrying big sticks: they are neither seen nor heard insofar as their muscle-flexing and general powers of banning/locking go, but they effectively end the idiocy before it goes too far.

in summation: thread lock after thread lock is just a downer man. it's the internet, threads will derail, tangents will be forged, threads will ramble on endlessly. let's embrace it.

if you think your bum is chafed now, wait until this thread is locked and the mods keep bumping it for days afterwards.

Complaining about locked threads in a Forum where everything is locked?

Yeah locking a thread that you consider of over talked subject is lame too.  I can understand the bickering part but give them a warning.  No need to lock a thread because of it.

even giving warnings looks lame, honestly, unless it's really warranted. when you scroll through a thread and 5 posts on any given page is a warning to settle down it just looks lame

i say make sure everyone knows the rules (which i'd say is the purpose of zod's occasional pinned memo to remind everyone to chill out) and then enforce them (when absolutely necessary.) zod/kurb have been pretty damn effective at it without becoming overbearing and turning this place into saintsreport, hopefully it's a culture that can be transmitted as time goes on

Can we add a feature where the op has the option to lock their own thread?
