I'm still not quite getting all the hype about Kaepernick

OK, granted I'm from the bay area, so maybe all the hype and buzz about Colin is a little more prevalent in the golden state, but I'm completely dumbfounded by some of the comparisons I've been hearing.

Radio talk show hosts are already putting him in the category of Steve Young and Joe Montana. TV sport shows (not just locally, but nationally as well) are prematurely saying he's a top 3 QB in this league right now, and will eventually go down as one of the greatest QB's to ever play this game, Yes, ever ....

If my memory serves me right, the dude played half a season, put up decent numbers, and led his team to a Superbowl appearance. Ok, not bad at all, but I didn't know starting 10 games in your career and losing a Superbowl is the new litmus test for determining greatness over an entire NFL career.

I'm not saying he isn't good. I do believe he has the upside and potential to be an upper echelon QB in this league, but I'm just not quite getting all these inane comparisons. What were people saying in Charlotte after Cam's rookie year? What about Jake Delhomme after he took over Rodney Peete and led us to a Superbowl? Were the comparisons similar?

The NFL has become almost WWF like in its desire to create a story.

out of all the young guns in the league, kaep would be my last pick to build a franchise around.

i'm talking cam, luck, wilson, rg3, and dalton. i haven't watched enough tannehill to make a call on him.

His team went to the Superbowl, and he played well during the Superbowl run.  So he gets hyped.  Its worked that way for a long time, although there are a lot more media outlets now to provide hype.  Even Jake Delhomme had some hype coming into the 04 regular season.

He's had one really good game (vs. the patriots) and a bunch of fumbles.

I don't get the hype either. That team previously went 13-3 with Alex Smith, then spent the offseason wooing Peyton Manning. I'm thinking they could win with Jimmeh under center.

I think he was Cam's roommate at the combine, so of course anything to show that possibly makes him look bad. I.e he is more successful than Cam Newton.

As someone else said, the same team almost made it to the super bowl with Alex Smith under center.

He is young, incredibly accurate, and can break plays wide open with his feet. He has great presence in the pocket, and an absolute cannon for an arm.

Comparing him to hall of famers is silly, too small a sample size. Seeing him as the best young QB in the game is not.
