The NFL has sent a loud message to Ndamukong Suh about his extracurricular activities on the field.

NFL Media's Albert Breer reported that NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hanks notified Suh on Tuesday that he has been fined $100,000 for his unnecessary roughness penalty in the Detroit Lions' 34-24 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
The $100,000 fine is the largest financial penalty (not counting lost suspension money) for an on-field violation in NFL history.

Suh was flagged for a personal foul after he blindsided Vikings center John Sullivan with a hit to the knees. Sullivan, who underwent microfracture knee surgery in the offseason, avoided serious injury on the play, but he said Monday there needs to be "consequences when guys don't respect the careers of other players."

how could you watch that and say he deserved it?

He didn't appear to be targeting and that has been a legal technique up until this game?

intentionality and flagrance.

might be overkill given the outcome but the NFL is sending a message

oh noes he arm-tackled him late out of bounds! this is exactly the same as intentionally and bodily throwing your 600,000lb frame at the side of a defenseless player's knee joint in the middle of the field with no one around him!

On the surface the fine seems excessive. Considering though that he has been doing things like this since he entered the league, he's lucky it wasn't a lengthy suspension. Right or wrong, the NFL made him an example.

SZ James is a pretty sharp guy. I can never tell if he's deliberately being obtuse to play the contrarian or just trolling

yes what matthews did was a million times worse and more likely to injure someone. like I said, it was a legal hit before that game. I mean just admit that it's because his name is Suh because that's the only way it makes sense to me.

Suh has a history of dirty plays, Matthews does not.

Pretty dumb comparison.

Honestly this play is borderline but considering his history the fine is justified.
