Why aren't we?

It's the second week of the NFL season, and one of the best free agents on the market, safety Kerry Rhodes, remains unsigned. Why? Well, there are a few logical reasons ... and one disturbing possibility.

Rhodes started all 15 games in which he played for Arizona last year, and during that time recorded 58 tackles and nine assists. He also had four interceptions and forced two fumbles. That's not bad. In fact, it's not-bad enough that Pro Football Focus ranked him the fourth-best safety in the NFL in 2012. As Deadspin notes, Rhodes is the only still-unretired player in PFF's top 30 from 2012 who doesn't have a job.

If we are passing on him because there are rumors he is gay, then I am giving up all hope I had left for our coaching staff

We should be calling everyone who even played safety in high school at this point.

I highly doubt whether or not he is gay has anything to do with us not working him out.

What is his current asking price?

Word is he wanted 8 Mil per this offseason.

Probably could be had for 2-3 now.

That would seriously piss me off too.  I don't care what the guys sexual orientation is, heck he could be married to a bowl of guacamole, if he can play, I want him here.

It's definitely because he's gay. That's the league-wide reason that he's been blackballed. I wonder where exactly, considering our pressing need, the staunch opposition is coming from for our team in particular.

I'd be willing to bet it's from a crotchety, old, biscuit eating, conservative South Carolinian that sits in a box every Sunday.

Being gay on the low might not be a big deal, but having a loud, sassy, vindictive ex running around selling stories to anyone who will print them would bring drama to the locker room/team.

If I remember correctly, all the gay rumors came out because his former personal assistant started selling stories that billed him as Kerry Rhodes' 'wife.'
