Short 2011 Draft Review

Recommended Posts

Does it change your view now?

I don't really have a set view.  I've seen Cam succeed throwing the ball, I know he can do it.  Yet he's still not taking off in my eyes, and as I said he's regressing under this staff.  It's a wait and see, I'm just getting impatient.  I don't want to wait too long.

I didn't say he didn't have success.  Yet, he's regressing now, and of course his accuracy has always been on and off.  I'm wondering if there will be a day where Cam will be thought of as dissecting defenses with his arm, or will he always just be another athletic QB with a strong arm.  I'm getting impatient now.

It's easy to regress when you have an OC that runs 4 verts and no short patterns with Byron Bell at RT.

AJ Green is and will be one of the better receivers in the NFL.  Cam will likely be one of the best players in the NFL, and has the potential to be an all time great.  We made the right choice.

As bad as our O-line is, some of those sacks that went down Sunday was because Cam was a statue in the pocket. (Until a defender got a hand on him, then he would move)  Cam has to be able to manuever in the pocket, that's actually what being a pocket passer is all about.

That notwithstanding, you cannot pin 7 sacks on Cam through 2 games. Every QB in the league holds onto the ball too long now and again, but the majority of sacks are because the O-Line gets overpowered and outclassed. Ours is piss poor so...

I hear ya.  I just want to see something from Cam that says he's close to a breakthrough.  That he is that mature, reliable QB you expect to win 10-12 games a year. (Along with a few 13-15 win seasons)  Right now I'm not getting that vibe.  The bad coaching and bad O-line aside.  I hate to keep comparing Cam to Brady and Manning, but fans of those teams aren't worried about the things we are worried about.  The Pats don't have an amazing line blocking for Brady.  They have worse receivers than ours on the field I think.  Yet there is no Patriot fan worried about that stuff, as long as number 12 is running things.  We hate Matt Ryan, we hate Drew Brees, yet we respect their ability to call a game.  Let's be honest, (and I'm asking everyone) when Cam marches up to the line, do you feel utmost confident good things will happen?  In that Cam is going to lead that offense out there?  Truthfully, I don't.  I know all about Cam's abilities and potential, but I still don't feel confidence in him in leading that offense.  How about the rest of you?

No, we can't pin all those sacks on Cam, but he should have better pocket presence than he does right now.

The pass protection was good vs Buffalo. Cam held the ball way to long. He waits for guys to clear and has zero timing with the receivers. His mechanics are off and that should be fixed by now. He hasn't picked apart a defense since that Packers game his rookie year. I don't put all the blame on him but I see what I see during the games.

And he SHOULD have better pass protection than he does right now but the world isn't perfect now is it? A legitimate running game wouldn't hurt either. How much money in RB's?

Cam was the right the choice.

The rest of the 2011 draft?

LOLOLOL

Sorry but Hurney crippled this team. The negative effects of poor drafting and ignoring free agency aren't going away any time soon...

Agreed. A team needs a franchise QB to consistently compete. Unfortunately, the organization, particularly Marty Hurney, has failed to build the team around Cam and JR missed a golden opportunity to get a coach that would have tailored an offense to maximize Cam's ability (Chip Kelly).

I think I will wait till Can has a Oline not a joke before judging him. Having a QB coach calling plays does not help either.

As for the OP, are you related to Derek Anderson? You wanted him to be the starter last year and now are lamenting that the team really would be better off with him and AJ Green even though his last run as a starter he managed to have a 65 QB rating while getting an in his prime Larry Fitzgerald?

I didn't want him "want him" to be the starter.  It's just that late in the year I got so tired of seeing those read option failures, I wanted to see what a standard offense would have done for us.  With Anderson in there, I knew we would run Chud's standard offense.  Plus even though Anderson did stink the joint up in Arizona, he was still a more knowledgeable QB than Cam (he had success under Chud), perhaps he is still more knowledgeable.
