What the hell is on Gettleman's mind?

No one is getting a Moore or Britt for a 5th-6th round pick. More like a 2nd-3rd.

Gman has brought in enough bodies to help get this team into the playoffs even though they're not big names. The player have to execute and the coaches have to coach. I just think that Gman is really forcing Cam to show him that he is the future of this franchise. He wants to see if Cam can carry this team on his own. Gman isnt going to go bring another WR or RB in when the "answer is already on the roster".

FIFY

With Cam Newton, our front 7, Kuechly, Kalil and Olsen I'm sure there are a few quality guys out there willing to accept the challenge.

That's laughable, probably on all accounts.  No one is going to give a 2nd or 3rd round pick for receivers who have shown flashes of being able to take over a game, but far too inconsistently. Both their respective coaches have publicly acknowledged perceived problems with their focus, and Britt's injury issues (by themselves) are enough to drop his stock in the realm of a 6th or 7th round pick, particularly since knee swelling has apparently become a problem this year.  No one is going to risk a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a guy that could conceivably be out of the league in a couple of years (or next year, depending upon Britt's knees, not to mention past off-field issues).  Moreover, looking at the first two weeks, the passing game looks eerily similar to the past couple of years, in regards to Smitty and Olsen being the only consistent options), so I don't believe that G-man deserves the benefit of the doubt in reference to our receiving corp.  He and others may believe it's good enough, but we obviously need something better than just "good enough".

To OP, people need to understand that what GMs and HCs say to media don't always correlate with what happens behind the scenes.. Just sayin... There's a reason everyone is on 1 year deals here...

So easy, teams should be lining up on the front doors of the Titans and Raiders. Why havent the Ravens? Why havent us? Why havent the Patriots? You're assuming something that isnt there.

The die is almost certainly cast on Rivera.

I would say that Cam's performances are very important for this reason.

If you are looking for a great head coach, EX Andy Reid, one who has proven he can win.  Then, do you demand he make something of Cam, or, do you say to him, "whatever you think as long as we win".  Keeping Cam might be in the cards either way, but to get a great coach, you might not be able to put in disclaimers while hiring or you could repeat the Rivera era

Why does everyone want to pull the why-haven't-other-teams-did-this-and-done-that card?  Different teams have different needs, different philosophies, and different cap space. Moreover, some GMs are much more creative and forward thinking than others. That's why the 49ers can go out and get Anquan Boldin for a 6th, and that's why the Colts can go out and get T-Rich.

The Patriots did make overtures to Brandon Lloyd according to reports, but why would they go out and get questionable WRs that may not be better than what they already have. The problems with the WRs up there has more to do with learning the Patriots system and honing their timing with Tom Brady. Many analysts, even now, will tell you that they are going to be fine later in the season.

I am not assuming anything, just thinking outside of the box.  Cam needs help, and needs help now. More than a few NFL types will tell you this.

Im not saying we cant possibly go out and get one of them. Im saying it's going to take more than a 5th or 6th. Hell I'll give away a 3rd for Britt right now!!! But, I would rather just wait and sign him as a FA next year.

and the reason why SF made a trade for "Q" or the Colts with T-rich is bc they're trying to "WIN" now. I just dont believe that Gman is trying to win right now. I believe that he wants his own HC. I'll go as far as to say that Cam may not even be in the future of Gman' plans. It's pretty much still a rebuilding process in my eyes.

Does anyone not get that we have to start freeing up room to pay Cam, and Luke a year later?

Might not need to pay cam if he keeps his play at this level
