one of my favorite memories of jon was his intercepting aaron rodgers on the comeback drive during that nailbiter in green bay back in 2008.

i hope he flourishes in NY.

also the Arizona regular season game that year when he intercepted Kurt Warner to save that game.

big moment i remember was that fight between smitty and lucas.

beason was in his second training camp at that point.

i remember looking across the field trying to figure out what was going on over there and realzing that it was smitty fighting with someone (i knew that smith was following lucas back to the defensive side of the fied running his mouth, but it didn't dawn on me that it was lucas that smith was pummeling).

anyway....beason, even though he was the "new guy" he got right in the middle of it and pulled smith off of lucas and tried to make things calm. iirc, beason didn't just happen to be at the right place at the right time. i think he was just aware and was able to respond quicker than others and get where he could help.

i think it was at that moment that i realized that he wasn't just another player. i might have been reading too much into that one moment, but i just came away from that whole experience respecting him. from then on i really appreciated what he brought to the team, not just in terms of talent, but presence and leadership.

he always did what needed to be done at the right moment, on or off the field with the team. he stepped up with courage when he needed to and then stepped aside with grace when that was needed to make way for kuechly.

i know i said it before, but i'll always appreciate what he brought and the legacy he leaves and i'm positive the guys in that lockerroom will feel the same way.

Really people, beason deserves all the love from us fans, but this trade is ludicrous. It's obvious our gm is helping his former team. Yea beason isn't the same player he was before the injuries but a 7th for him is absurd. I'm sorry, but this trade is Soo bad it's not even funny, fug our organization way to be bottom dwellers a 4th would have been ideal straight up, nyg got a steal, it's obvious what team gettleman cares about more, fug this trade and how this organization has been ran, no wonder why we haven't seen the playoffs since '08

Honestly, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this.

"Jon Beason traded for a late round pick". Yeah...there's a headline I thought I'd read twelfth of never

Historically speaking, this is Dave Gettleman's first trade as Panther GM. He sure as heck didn't wade into the water gently, did he?

I'm still praying that everyone is speculating on the "late round draft pick" and it turns out to be something better

Jon, you are going to be missed. By the City of Charlotte, by the Panthers organization, by Panther fans everywhere, by me.

Thank you for all you gave us. Best wishes for the future and don't stop giving 100%, ever.

BTW be careful in the party bars in NYC and NJ. They make Charlotte bars look like the YMCA after school day care.

I will really miss Jon Beason. Talk about the epitome of what a great player and person is. He always exuded class, was a beast is the field, and was born to lead. I hate losing him, but I wish him the best of health and luck in New York.

At one point Beason was the face of the franchise.  In 2010 he was the best player on the worst team in the league.  The next 2 years he got hurt early and was never the same.  There was a time when he was neck and neck with D. Ryans in the "Who is the best LB in football?" conversation. Oh, how the mighty have fallen!

I'm okay with this move because I think it honors the fact that Beason didn't want to sit on the sidelines and watch this defense rise to a level that it never could while he was out there despite the fact that he was an all pro level player for at least 2 or 3 years.

It is a wise and respectful decision on Gettleman's part.  I'll miss Beason, but...yeah...it's a business.

#52 is the only jersey I have ever owned.  I'm not really in a financial position to go out and buy an "officially licensed" jersey right now.  I'm torn as to whether I should just go ahead and sport the #52 or whether I should retire it.  I wore it vs. Giants and we stomped them, so I'm feeling a bit superstitious about dissing it.  I hesitate to get a Cam jersey until he actually signs an extension.  Hardy as well.  Maybe I'll go get me a cheapo #89 just because the man is probably the greatest Panther of all time.
