Hard to say without knowing what our owner is thinking. But at this point it's looking more and more like lame duck though.

Information like this getting out so early in the season after a blowout win doesn't exactly instill confidence in Rivera.

I think the problem with things like this is that we don't how or why this information got out...or how serious it is.  It can just as easily be that Gettleman doesn't think he will need to look elsewhere and is only starting the process as a fallback option...or maybe he has already made up his mind.  But as you said, we can't really know without knowing what the owner and FO are thinking, we can only speculate.

Regardless, like CRA said, this isn't a lame duck situation like it was with Fox.  There's at least the perception that Rivera can keep his job if we get to the playoffs.  So there's still a reason for the players to stay focused and working hard, unlike with Fox when they knew he was gone no matter what.

Rivera should have never started the season as Panthers HC.

That's ultimately what it comes down to.

Like I said, this whole ordeal may limit our list of candidates. We could very well end up with another Ron Rivera kind of hire again.

Remember what happened last year when the coals were stirred by the firing of Marty Hurney? Yeah players love him, hopefully this has the same effect it had last year. "Holy poo Guys, Rivera may be fired. Should we start to play now?" It seems like this is the conversation that goes on.

Why would Dave Gettleman need to do a background search on anyone in the Giants organization?

Rivera can no longer say theres always next week. The G-man knows the Big Cat needs to win now because he only has a few years left due to health reasons. We have a new Sherrif in town with G-man and he is all business. He did what he could for Beason in getting him a team where he could play MLB, but also helped the team by getting a draft pick where next year we would have lost Beason and got nothing in return. Rivera has to coach as if every game could be his last.
You can be a players coach, but you have to win in the NFL or go home.

Rivera is Rivera. What you've seen is what you're going to get.

You think he can flip a switch and turn on an entirely new method of coaching this team in order to save his job? Sorry, I don't see it nor do I see this as a corporate method of motivating someone in a management position.

Would any of you "business masterminds" not do this if an employee that had not put up satisfiable numbers was nearing the end of their contract?
