Like I mentioned before, extracting as much pain is the goal here. High profile shutdowns to get the "word" out. Sequester fear mongering turned into a big flop.
Besides, shutting down the Let's move site would probably go unnoticed.
Love to have seen a Pub shut down the Amber alert website and the front pages all across the country. It would have been epic.

I think we need more information. Is it not possible that LetsMove could have some outside funding available to keep the site running? After all .gov is just an extension.
It's pretty bad if so though, almost as bad as people taking the country hostage so everyone can't get universal healthcare. Both sides looking really childish.

This is not surprising - The more active the content, the more it costs to maintain.
Also, the way the gov't runs, different websites may be up because of how different departments handle the funding for it. I doubt that Let's Move specifically was kept online for any reason.
