So what if this guy was, say, the leader of the group that attacked the consulate there?

what if saddam had yellow cake?

Ya'll lighten up on Kerry

You didn't know he served in Vietnam?

Also, CWG the pragmatic one in this thread.  Funny as can be.

Did I mention that John Kerry served in Vietnam?

You are trying to compare capturing a guy that we've obviously done a lot of intel on and found worth this trouble to get, with invading a sovereign nation at the cost of thousands of lives and billions of dollars based on intel everyone knew was not iron clad at the very least.

so the severity of the transgression is why this is acceptable behavior

Maybe we should learn a few facts about this first? And of course there's a difference between getting a suspected terrorist, most likely with the collusion of Libya either acknowledged or not, and invading another country. This is the real world, not philosophy class. It could turn out to be a terrible decision but nine of us know yet.

this is the new face of american warfare. notice no one gave a poo about syria when all of that blustering was going on, provided there were no god-blessed boots on the ground. kill who you want to kill, indefinitely detain who you want to indefinitely detain; just don't put any of our hired thugs in the line of fire

seems to me if libya won't give this guy up, then we should pull our consulate, support, and end communication and interaction with them

nah, lets go into another country and just arrest their citizens

That's exactly the wrong way to handle.an unstable country. Again, this is the real world.
