Rivera's last press conference he said himself that he tries not to speak in defensive meetings and tries to allow the coaches to talk through game plans on their own.

So many accolades for our defense is a good thing.  But I would like to wait and see how we do against some of the better offenses in the league before I am convinced.  If the saints and patriots torch us, then its much ado about nothing.

I think he daydreams on the sideline about playing on the field again. Being one of the guys.

McDermott got a raw deal in Philly.  He'll get some HC interviews if the defense keeps playing at the level they have been.

Ron Rivera is the best defensive mind and/or DC in the NFL today. Regardless of what you think of him as a HC. The man is a phenomenal defensive coach.

Sean McDermott is a young, defensive coach prodigy and is quickly becoming one of the best DC's in the NFL. He may be a top 5 DC already. He was unfairly blamed for the mess in Philadelphia and spent his first few years here with major talent deficiencies at several positions. This year is the first time he's had the talent to show what he can do, and he is delivering.

Why people have been dead set on running this staff out of Carolina for almost 2 years is beyond me. Bring in a offensive minded guy and it may help Cam some, but the defense will suffer badly.

If Rivera is fired at the end of the year and we end up bringing in a new HC, I hope Sean stays as DC

With just a few exceptions, I've liked what McDermott has done with our defense since day 1.

Too many people here judged him unfairly because of how he left Philly. Then once our D began to come around last year, everyone wanted to give Rivera the credit.

I think he has been severely underrated by many of our fans, and I'm glad he is getting a few accolades now.

I actually think McD would make the best HC of the guys currently employed here. He's a fiery guy the players respect.

I will really appreciate him when we stop giving up last minute drives.

    • I was a Marine Brat at Camp Lejeune NC and graduated from CLHS in 1978 and on 28 June 1978 I joined the Navy.  I retired On June 30th 2003 after 25 yrs of Naval Service and have been serving overseas to support our troops ever since. I was in Tikrit when they captured Saddam.  Soldiers from our base were the ones who actually found him.  I have been in places in Iraq called Mosul, Al Asad, and Al Kut,  I have been in Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.  The living hell hole called FOB Shank were incoming was a daily encounter. You see young soldiers who don't even shave yet.  Some look like they lied to get in.  Men and women from every walk of life.  Putting that uniform on.  So needless to say, I am very attached and proud of every one of them.  Whether they know me or not.  Tears fill my eyes every time we lose one. (Just lost one last week). This video, I saw when it was originally aired, still make me water up.   I challenge anybody to show me a more military dedicated team, in ANY LEAGUE, ANY SPORT, that supports the troops like the Carolina Panthers.  I'll give my hated Yankees a close 2nd. ($10,00 ticket with a military ID) **at old Yankee Stadium. Carolina is a class act, plain and simple. Thanks for posting this again,
