What?  I haven't even seen the read option be a problem this year.  Now the wildcat?  I fuging face palm every time we line up in that poo.

i was thinking this same thing.

if there is any play worthy of a thread entitled "please lose the....." it's the wildcat.

why do we do it? what's the point? why would we choose to put in a RB who we know is just going to run the ball in behind center rather than a guy who is really good at running and throwing the ball and who is a total threat to do either one.

it's a pointless play that has no benefit to us.i just don't see why we bother with it at all. i don't see any strategic advantage and we don't do it well...aside from that first game against atlanta years ago we've never done it well.

pisses me off every time i see it.

I dont like the slow read mesh point. Takes too long..need to have designated QB runs. The triple optio as others said is a nice wrinkle.

Mesh point is the slowest with Williams....they hit different gaps with him. He tends to have his set up to go outside the T. I don't like his read looks as much as others

Yeah, it seems like we're good for it at least once every game.  Makes no sense when we have Cam as our QB... if you want to run the football and catch 'em off guard then just call a designed run for him.

I will say it hasn't been THAT bad production wise this year though.  We haven't lost any yardage from what I remember, and we seem to pick up at least 2 yards or so.

Fisher said our version is much tougher for opponents than what SF does with it....

Might have something to do with the fact he is playing us this week. Most coaches tend to compliment the upcoming opponent.

We do run it different...most teams don't use it as much as a play action. It really has been blended into our pass better than SF

Different yes, but I am not sure if we run it better. But I do think we have gotten better at it this year.

Last year, Cam would keep the ball in Williams stomach so long that I had time to get up and take a leak. ;)

Cam has still had some misreads this year. As a matter of fact, in the Giants game the play before he ran it in for a TD we ran a read option play and Cam should have kept it. He could have moonwalked into the endzone. He knew it too because he let out a very loud "SHlT!" Afterward.

Team are also defending the read option better, but the triple option look they haven't figured out as well. That triple option is an equalizer to how teams are defending the read option.

It is good stuff, and I actually wish we ran it more, but we are doing just fine for the most part, so just keep doing what we are doing.

No they don't.

Observer broke it down this offseason....we averaged I think 6 yards on the runs

Fisher says ours is much tougher bc we also use it as a play action pass well

We overused it 4 games and people falsely started this campaign it was bad....bad usage for 4 weeks out of 37 games played

I just have a clear vision in my head of it getting completely blown up against Seattle and tb last year. By that same token I remember cams beautiful performance against ATL with it.

Preach CRA.... preach brother.

The read option has worked very well for us this season.  It helps to put Cam into a grove.  Not to mention the 3-4 times we've run a triple option.  I'd really like to see some more of that mixed in.  So far damn near every play with a pitch to Deangelo or the one last week against Minn (where Lafell came in motion to the backfield) has been successful.  With the way we pass out of it Olsen also saw a couple good seam routes on it from the LBs freezing.  The more of that we do, the more dangerous we become.

Its a threat.  Teams fear it.  It works.

Didn't we try to lose the read option for the start of the season? see how poorly that went. I'm not saying abuse it but it is a staple in our offense and allows us to open up the rest of our offense. it is needed. stop the option bashing.

there have been a few times where cam should have kept it. I like that we've started making noise with the play action aspect, which could possibly lead to major mistakes by defenses.
defenses definitely play it much better now than in 2011. I wish we disguised it better. everyone knows its coming when they see the formation.

Read option is amazing in Madden. Fake to D.Will, run with Cam, pitch to Stewart, 70 yard TD.

I dont mind a little bit of option thrown in there to mix things up, especially if the offense is stale and we need a boost. Cam is very good at the option too.

But, i do agree that I do not want the option to be our base offense. I am happier now with Shula, but I do want him to use Cams rushing ability more often in creative ways to keep the defenses guessing, and control the ball/keep the chains moving.
