you all do realize Thomas Davis and Kuechly are pretty much the same athletically right?   And apparently pretty much neck and neck with Willis too...

Kuechly is white though...  knock a few points for that.

Luke isn't the biggest MLB out there, take off a few points for that.

Lol funny that Luke is actually probably more athletic than Patrick Willis (who everyone considers a freak), but everyone just assumed that Willis was on some other tier due to Luke being white.

Hell, Luke's combine is more impressive than Willis' in every facet except 40 time... 4.51 (Willis) to 4.58 (Luke).  Wow, big difference there.  Patrick is also an inch or two shorter.

So many of you have no idea how physically gifted Luke is.

He is a better physical specimen than any LB we have ever had.

Willis vs Luke combine:

Willis
ht 6-1
wt 242
40 low 4.48 40 time 4.51
20 yard 2.62
10 yard 1.53
225 lb bench 22
vertical 39
broad jump 9-11
20 yard shuttle 4.46
3 cone 7.23

Luke
ht 6-3
wt 242
40 low 4.49 40 time 4.58
20 yard 2.59
10 yard 1.56
225 lb bench 27
vertical 38
broad jump 10-3
20 yard shuttle 4.12
3 cone 6.92

Well, I'll be damned. I always thought he ran a 4.3 at the combine but it was actually at his pro day. I'll take combine numbers over pro day numbers any day as everyone is running in the same conditions.

Yep, much more pressure at a combine than a catered pro day. Good numbers mean more there.

If you have the choice of being hit by Willis, Thomas Davis and Luke 10 times......who would you prefer hit you?   I would imagine that plays into it.  Panther players have specifically talked about the power Thomas Davis can generate in two steps and unleash.  Luke can't do that like Davis.

that ability to thump and unleash on someone....factors in to this discussion I would believe.

Luke is a freak just in the sense that he's arguably the best in the league at his position, and doesn't have weaknesses.  When I think of freak, I think of someone who not only excels at his own position, but also excels in areas that most at his position don't, or, who are not a weakness at other positions on the field.

Lebron is the definition of a freak, Peppers was another freak, he lined up as receiver, played coverage and got interceptions, and even played college basketball.  As far as this team, I would pick Cam due to his running ability, but I'm curious to see Luke cover a top notch WR deep down the field.  I think he can do it, and if he can, he's added to the list.

Darin Gantt most accurately described Thomas Davis IMO....he is too quick and powerful for his body to handle it.

Davis IMO is the most physically talented LB in Panther history.

Luke has has great physical talent....but his instincts and film work make his game special along with the physics aspect

Just curious, what makes his "film work" more special than someone like TD?

To clarify, the debate was over who is an ATHLETIC freak, not an athleticism freak.  Luke is most definitely an athletic freak.  I swear, some people on this board . . .

I think it is a combo of film AND instincts for Luke....

Luke even in college read and reacted quicker than equally talented LBs often...same applies at this level.

Keek's combine was not similar to Willis'. Keek ran in the 4.5s. Great for a LB, but not jaw dropping. When a 240+ guy runs in the 4.3s like Willis did, that is jaw dropping.

Willis did not run a 4.3 at the combine he was clocked in the 4.3s at his pro day which are always inaccurate.

Willis combine 40 time 4.51
Kuechly combine 40 time 4.58

In fact that's the one of two combine tests Willis has keek beat in.. Look it up. The other being vertical leap (Willis 39 keek 38)

Keuchly did more reps at bench 27 to 22

Faster 3 cone, 20 yard dash, 20 yard shuttle, broad jump and 60 yard shuttle if Willis is an athletic freak so is Keuchly..
